Is the offer of a discount for an Emovis tag permanent? We don’t need one this year, but may do next year.

No idea. However the annual rental on the tag is €8 and saving only €10. Therefore personally I would wait until you are actually sure you need it. The battery only lasts five years also, so by getting one now the tag would be a fifth expired before you started using it.
Also unless it’s changed I don’t remember any application fee. Just the 20€ for the tag and the cost of postage.

Go into your account with Emovis and it will show you the status of the battery in your Tag/s.Mine was in amber when I checked.There was a delay in getting a new one ordered due to supply issues.However once a new supply batch arrived with Emovis the re -order and return of the previous Tag went through within 48 hours.All confirmed by email and account adjusted accordingly.

France - Liber-t tag
As long as your vehicle is no more than 3 metres in height and less than 3.5 tonnes GVW you can use any non height restricted lane that has the Liber-t symbol illuminated. A vehicle of this size falls into the Class 2 fee structure. If your vehicle is larger than this then please contact our sister company Eurotoll.Spain and Portugal - VIA-T tag
Providing your motorhome weighs less than 6 tonnes you can use the VIA-T lane1 -
A firm called Mango - a rebranding of tne French motorway company APRR - has advertised that they are giving out tags free of charge at the moment. No postage, no set up charge, no monthly fee. But whether they work for motorhomes over normal size limits I do not know - but they will tell you.

If you want a single tag that is valid in France, Spain and Portugal then try Bip & Go.

Unfortunately YT the same restrictions apply to Bip & Go as Emovis. Looking at them they all seem to be linked, just differently badged.
I drive a vehicle that is heavier than 3.5 metric tons and/or taller than 3m. Can I use Bip&Go electronic toll payment?
Bip&Go only offers electronic toll payment badges for light vehicles. For lorries, buses and category 3 or 4 campervans, you will need an electronic toll payment badge for heavy vehicles.If you are a professional, you can subscribe with Eurotoll (company from the Sanef group).

You're right Steve...my point was that, if you have a smaller van, you only need one tag rather than two from other companies.

Don’t worry. An autoroute roll booth can measure whether your vehicle is over the 3 metre height limit, it can count how many axles you have, and it can tell whether or not you are towing - but frankly the toll booth has no way of weighing your motorhome to see it is 3.5 tonnes or has been uprated to 3.85 tonnes. It will pass.

Agree with David...I've mentioned a tag to my co-driver on more than one occasion but she's happy tapping the credit card through the window.
if I was on my own, especially with a RHD van, I'd certainly have one.

When we toured abroad we found having a Tag made life a lot easier especially as more of the exits off the autoroute are now unattended. It will depend on how much you are travelling in the countries involved. We often spent a couple of months touring all over France so the Tag was an easy option. When we got the motorhome it was even better as Margaret found it difficult when it came to paying at an attended booth because of the higher position. I quite liked the Emovis system as well, direct payment from you bank account rather than to a credit card which you have to remember to update when you get a new card.

Having a larger motorhome, I have not to date found anyone issuing toll tags for these. In some countries, for the larger vehicle, it is just as easy to buy electronic charge boxes at the borders as you enter, e.g. Austria or Czech Republic.

We got the Tag due for the same reasons-if you can reach to pay without too much trouble that's fine, but if you cant its a right pain to the extent that I would have to get out and do it, and all the time seeing the trucks one had passed sail through!
Its never happened to me, but I know people who have damaged towing mirrors and vans in the course of getting "just a bit closer".
We only used one very short section of toll this year and did fleetingly wonder if it was worth keeping the Tag-but soon decided, all things considered, it is!

They are certainly useful when things get busy. At one peage last year the queues at the lanes where you could pay were horrendous. We sailed through the HGV one where you had to slow to 30 kph in a few seconds, couldn’t use the car ones due to height barriers. I did wonder if we would get charged as an HGV but it came through on the account as class 2.
