VLM Control Units

I have just changed my towcar from a Ssangyong Korando to a 69 plate Ford Kuga but my Swift caravan had to have a Sargent VLM Electronic Control Unit fitted so that the caravans LED road lights would work correctly / be fully compatible with my Ssangyongs electrical systems - does any member tow with a Kuga and know if the LED lights on a Swift caravan will now work correctly with my Kuga with the VLM unit still fitted or is this unit not usually necessary for this car and caravan combination?
