Fuelpecker/ Nectar Points

I think I probably know the answer to this, but perhaps others may know different!!  😀😀.......

Paying with a Fuelpecker card entitles you to 4p off a litre of diesel at Esso.  There is also a deal whereby you can trade in 300 Nectar points for 5p off a litre of diesel.  (You can guess where this is going.... 😀)

If you use 300 Nectar points (for the 5p reduction) and then pay with your Fuelpecker card, which comes through in a few days with 4p a litre off....  That way you have saved 9p a litre at Esso.......

Anyone tried it?  Probably a very slim chance.....  I'd be interested to hear if anyone has tried it......

Comment from my wife: 'Trust you to think of that!!!!!'  🤣🤣🤣

I rather think that you are "a realist with experience" than a cynic!

It could very well depend on where you live and how desperate you are.  If Esso is just around the corner and Asda is 8 miles away, and your almost empty....  Or even time constraints....  There was a huge queue at Sainsbury's here, yesterday (mainly a shortage of Unleaded), but you still had to queue is you wanted diesel.  I queued for around 15 minutes to get to a diesel pump... those for unleaded queued longer....

Last filled up on 22nd March.  Every time I have wanted to top up, price too high and queues too long!

At the moment, Asda and Sainsbury's are the cheapest here and beat our local Esso even with the 4p off for using Fuelpecker...

i have thought about doing that, but i cannot see how it would work. You will get the nectar discount at the till, but fuelpecker convert the pump price to their discounted price. it takes a few days for the converted fuelpecker price to come through. But you could always try.

I'm fortunate that on my way to my local supermarket I pass an Esso garage.  I am therefore able to compare prices and fill up at the less expensive outlet.  For the past month the headline price for diesel at the Esso garage has been less than the supermarket I then get .03p a ltr off.

Woops!  Should have said .04p a ltr discount for diesel.  Sorry

When the prices at our local Esso come down to make the 'double discount' worthwhile, I may well give it a go.  At the moment, it is cheaper for us to use Sainsbury's or Asda - even with the 4p Fuelpecker discount and using Nectar points.

I filled up at our local Esso today using my Fuelpecker card which gave me a saving over our local Asda of 1.8p/L. Better in my pocket than Asda's

    Asda 170.7 -  Esso 172.9 (- 4p)

Slightly off topic but see that Fuelpecker are not accepting new members through the Club at the moment, existing members not affected.  Also worth noting that in Europe the card is accepted in most countries also includes Shell and  also Aviva in France.  Card not accepted in Austria and not for Shell in Italy.  Every little helps.

Don't know why Fuelpecker aren't accepting new members commeyras.  I'll have to try and find out....

Thanks for the reminder about using the card in Europe.  I wonder whether they charge any sort of currency conversion fee?

David.  I have my card so doesn't affect me.  I found out about no new members following the link through Offers - members offers above.  Don't know if they charge a conversion fee perhaps you could also ask.

I have not received an email from the club about the card being discontinued.  I have had a card for a few years and would be sad to see it go.  However, it is not clear whether existing card holders can continue to use their card after 1 Sep.  Does the email clarify this?

Our local Esso is currently cheaper than Asda and that is displayed pump prices. And that is before the 4p deduction.

I think I'll have to fill up tomorrow for the last time before the offer ends.    cry

I contacted Fuelpecker and they confirmed closure was for new customers, and does not affect existing users.

    Important Notice

Regrettably, the Fuelpecker Member Offer is to come to a close on 31 August 2022 and from 1 September will no longer be available. Please be assured that we are looking into alternative fuel card options on behalf of members, and many other new ways for members to save with the Club.

Thanks surfer for contacting fuelpecker, this email could be viewed as for new customers or existing customers. But anyway good news. This is a good scheme when combined with petrol prices .com. Although of no use for some people, especially those near a costco with fuel.

After reading the notice in club magazine this month regarding Fuelpecker Member Offer I searched unsuccessfully for clarification what this means so contacted Fuelpecker customer services.

I received this response today -

    "Thanks for your mail.

The Fuelpecker scheme will not be available to new customers. Existing customers will not be affected and their Fuelpecker cards will continue to be valid for use on an ongoing basis.

    Tom"

I was going to bin it on 01/09 so good job I checkedembarassed

I used Fuelpecker a week last Sunday and have not yet been billed for it.  It's never taken that long!  Perhaps they'll forget about it......  (doubtful!!  🤣🤣)

On the subject of 'validity'....  The quote above said that they were not accepting 'new applications', but existing customers would not be effected.  I wonder what will happen in 2024, when my card expires...  As an existing customer, I wonder if my card will be renewed??

Today I got two bills.  The one I recognise, but the other is not mine.  It is a charge for Synergy Supreme+ Diesel on 19th Aug at a cost of £1.659 per litre after the discount.  The chances of getting Supreme+ at even £1.80 are negligible!  Cannot even get normal diesel at that price!

I think they have given me someone else's bill as checking my records I do not have the transaction recorded.  Checking back on my records for the past 3 months there is no record of that amount of litres being supplied, not even close.

It is a concern and I have emailed them.

Not realy, David.  You have already paid in advance for the Nectar points.

Used by card yesterday and no issue although they had to swipe it a couple of times.  They still have not replied to my query regarding what appears to be an incorrect bill.
