Think I turned it off ages ago the same as I restrict cookies out of sheer awkwardness rather than any great desire for privacy.

Just checked, it is turned off. My normal default is to only allow access to location services when I am using the app. If they are doing it in the background they are using power, which I like to avoid.

Hi David, Yes I get the updates and my latest was this morning.

Some time back the penny dropped re all the photos that you saw when looking at Streeetview. I use this a lot, in fact most days, when I use Google Maps and found how easy it is to "Contribute".

The "contribute" button is right below the "Timeline" button in the menu and even as an IT dullard find it easy to use.

I have the Streetview app and have sometimes taken the 360 degree pictures you might have seen and, as of today, my photos have been viewed 1,600,348 times.

Looking at the stats for most viewed shows that they are not always what one would think they may be!

Yesterday I looked at Steetview for a trip to Swanses this week, aholiday in April and as I have posted its a real bonus when looking at access for sites, fuel stops when towing etc.

It can be a puzzle sometimes, as yesterday, to look at a hotel, say, that has thousands of reviews yet there are hardly any photos and often the photo icon, a blue dot, will be nowhere near where it was taken but overall it is, for me, a very useful tool and the more people use sit the more info will be there to help others.

Got mine yesterday. Even though not much travelled last year there was still quite a bit of detail including photos. One such location listed neither of us could remember as it sounded Welsh and we hadn't been to Wales. So out came Google maps and in went the location, Hollym. See what I mean about it sounding Welsh. All was revealed, it was a cl near Withernsea in East Yorkshire.

It's all a bit scary when it knows more about my whereabouts than me. Don't profess to have the knowledge to use it to it's limit but good anyway.

Before I turned it off I saw it was accusing me of visiting places that I had not been. For example, I was supposed to have visited a public house and was pestered for a review. In fact, I had stopped outside to change a wheel.  Good thing I had not stopped a little further along outside the "massage" parlour.

I find that it can be useful & interesting to see where you've been. A while back I saw a payment on my credit card that I couldn't remember making, looked on my timeline for that day & all was revealed! You can always turn it off if you're planning on going somewhere you should be going to! 🙄
