Hi Folks

We are experienced motorhomers and have done a fair amount of Europe over the years from Portugal to Greece and all points in between for some reason we have never done Croatia, we intend to head there this year via (Hull/Rotterdam) Mid May to end of June, have tried an Internet search but I can't seem to get an answer about the weather, would be grateful if you good people could give us some idea.

Regards

Keith

It'll be hot in June and getting busy with German and Austrian campers and their motorboats and jetskis. May will be OK and the sea will be warming up nicely. IMHO, September is the best time to visit Croatia.

For info on campsites  look here https://www.camping.hr/

Big camps with thousand pitches or minikamps like CLs

As a motorhomer, two sites that are by the sea and within walking distance of the town are Jezevac on the island of Krk, and Kovacine on the island of Cres. Ferries are turn up, pay and go. Krk reached by bridge.

Camping Krk is one of the best kept sites we’ve ever been on, well worth a visit.

The month of May is normally warm (although in 2019 it was not so but hopefully that was a 1 in 50 year hick-up). The weather in June is normally warm and beautiful. In July and August you would certainly need aircon in your unit.

Generally a coastal destination, but a visit to Plitvice Lakes National Park in central Croatia is very worthwhile -  warm & dry when we visited in May. I particularly like Autocamp Draga (ACSI 925) at Moscenicka Draga and the elegant resort of Opatija nearby.

That’s one way, but I’d recommend staying over at Camping Korana and use the shuttle bus to visit the lakes. Can get very busy with tourists (in normal times!) so plan to arrive early/late and ideally do the lake circuit in reverse. Lots of walking necessary to do the place justice.

    >Croatian Touring<

Weather is great in late May and June but do try to avoid the German holidays or put down roots for the duration of them, Travel to Croatia is a realtive short run for the Germans..

For those wanting to go to Croatia for the first time it might be an idea to give Monty Don's new series, episode 2, a viewing, most of it in Croatia. Obviously from the gardening point of view.

Well I do enjoy Monty Don's programmes and did enjoy the scenery possibly some places where you have been AD.  We would like to go there but a a long way to go for us these days.

Crystal-clear water for early morning swims is a feature of Croatian camping

I’ve promised myself a trip further south to Dubrovnik, but what to do about Bosnia - go through it or around it? The interior of Croatia still shows many signs of the recent conflicts and can feel a little intimidating at times. I suspect Bosnia maybe more so?

Hi David, Slightly different here-no issue watching the programs, but do try to avoid the gardening!

Our “would like to visit” list includes Croatia but not this year, when, fingers crossed, we will head to Lago Trasimeno.

Bridge should be opening this year to avoid the necessity of going through Bosnia, alternative is a ferry.

Plitvice Lakes already covered - read previous  posts.

    Slunj, Croatia.

Ljubljana - lovely city. We stayed at Ljubljana Resort & Camp, good location for city access, but site is ok rather than anything special - ok for a couple of nights.

Camping Podzemilj ob Kolpi, Podzemilj - nice, peaceful riverside site on Croatia/Slovenia border.

Lake Bled definitely worth a visit - Camping Bled.

We were on the Island of Cres which was fabulous and Plitvic waterfalls a must see.

Totally agree with Seaside Bill, dont drive through Slovenia without stopping at at Lake Bled, its an absolutely stunning area.
