Travel Insurance for the over 80s ?
We are hoping to travel to France over the New Year and my Annual Travel Insurance ran out in 2020 when we weren't allowed to travel abroad.
Since it ran out I have reached 80 and at that point it seems to have tipped me into a category of being old in the eyes of the Insurance business.
I tried to get an annual policy with my present Insurers but they will only allow one trip of cover at a time rather than annual – and that's not cheap !
Are there any amongst you who have reached 80 and found a company that gives reasonable one trip prices or even one that does annual cover without needing a mortgage ?
Any help appreciated.

An alternative might be to rely on your EHIC /GHIC card for state medical treatment whilst overseas but take out a separate policy just to cover repatriation to the UK if that proves necessary. Those repatriation only policies are hard to find but might be worth searching.

Perhaps AGE UK could help?

I'm watching this thread with interest, I have more or less resigned myself to the fact that once I reach the dreaded 80 mark, at the very least my touring is going to be sererely curtailed or very expensive. At worst, I may even have to give up or it would be wise to do so especially if I cannot retain my C1E licence. I do read about others carrying on but in much smaller vehicles than I currently own and in some cases carrying their own risks. Like K&M my annual travel insurance will terminate on reaching 80 years of age which is now not too far down the line.

isn't it about time insurance companies changed some of these 'shady' practices.
The government are increasing our age for retirement saying that folk are living for longer and are generally much healthier, this obviously hasn't been passed down to insurance companies.
This year my OH turned 70 (still a spring chicken) yet we had to pay £65 as an add on with our Nationwide holiday insurance, then another £70 for extended travel days from 31 to 66. It's still cheaper than going to other companies but is it really necessary, given the health check you have to complete they can see that he has NO medical conditions.
I will keep my eye on this thread as we intend to carry on travelling as long as we can.

As many of us approach our ninth decade, I fear that venturing past these shores may become prohibitively expensive, particularly in relation to the actual holiday cost itself.
