In all my many years of using many club sites, almost exclusively, I've never come across this problem, how many club sites have you found this on?

Also I'm not sure there is a direct correlation between this problem and trying to charge an EV without paying? smile

Me too, although I don’t care either way about metering.

I’m not sure about the correlation either, but unfortunately have come across the problem on several occasions.

As long it was an accurate meter and the scale of charges were fair what's not to like about it, as you only pay for what you use. I am sure it would serve to make people more frugal also, which can only be a  good thing.

We infrequently use club sites with facilities but have seen this problem at the few that we have used, and reported the condition to the wardens at the time.

I too am not sure there is a direct correlation but there seems to be a disregard by a few members of what is acceptable practice on club sites, be it leaving the facilities in a sorry state or taking advantage "free" charging. However that is just my perception of how things are.

What do you mean by the scale of charges?

Well I can honestly say that it wouldn't for me, we would, have done in fact when metered on holiday (though not in caravan), use the same amount of electricity meter or not. I'm on holiday to enjoy myself not to worry about switching things off all the time and even leaving them on to serve a purpose. Same as at home.

The meter has to be accurate (calibrated) and the charge per kWh can be no more than the secondary supplier (the club) pays the primary supplier. Offgem regulations enforce this and it's one reason reselling electricity is not straightforward.

As any site staff will tell ,off peak the condition of the facility black is normally not that bad except  very few understand what that the brush in its container beside the toilet pan, in both ladies and gents ,is there for the use of all site users not just the site staff when on cleaning (Happy hours)surprised

And in peak. times  when no one knows when they are closed for cleaning? but there is always some looking at watches when they are expecting them to be openundecided

As some site staff will tell users ,in those circumstances "we clean to a standard not a timetable"wink

Obviously, some customers use them to a timetable, not a standard😉

We don't tend to use site toilets so I probably don't see the situation being described...
I (we) can't see the point of walking to a facs block when we have a perfectly good toilet aboard...especially in colder/wetter weather....and unless folk are not using the van toilet 'at all'...it will need to emptied at some point..and if it has to be emptied, does it make any difference what comes out of it?

...but I can (sort of) see a tenuous link between 'things' that some folk don't care too much about...it's probably because they don't care too much about any 'thing' other than themselves?💁

The few , as in all walks of life,  by their behaviour and ,attitude to others  are the ones who spoil for the many. undecided

It was a very odd comparison to make, I agree, but not entirely spurious I think.

People who disrespect one aspect of site behaviour are highly likely to disrespect other aspects.

Having said that, I must say that, although I have not used toilet blocks in two seasons now, when I did, it was exceptionally rare to find them in anything even close to the state that Nellie's comment implies.

It also occurs to me to wonder if it even possible to charge an EV on site. Where would you plug it in? Might it not blow the trip? (I admit to cluelessness about electric vehicles and electricity in general and certainly not expressing an opinion - just speculating.)

The EV has to be plugged in to the caravan/MH and not to the bollard. That method uses the van's trip protection to protect the supply to the car.

We in the many years and hundreds of club and commercial sites we have used, it is not a big problem and have not met or hopefully socialised with the "few" inconsiderate site users but have seen the results of themundecided

I think it is more about the electric car user not taking over two bollard outlets or being tempted to install a splitter.

I think this is a brilliant discussion.

Please add more metered sites as you find them.

There is a metered CL near Mallow Cove. They have been metering for a long time.

I have to use storage for my caravan so I installed 2 125watt solar panels to keep the AGM battery topped up. AGM's need a slightly higher voltage to reach 100% charge than the standard caravan mains unit supplies.

I found is so effective I installed an inverter with an automatic change over built in to change to mains when the battery goes low or visa versa.

I'm keen to try it out! And I would be happy to pay a reasonable standing charge to help offset the cost of installations.

Sandwich Lakes is near the town of Sandwich in east Kent. They have metered pitches too.

a CL near Burg Le Marsh has metered electricity. As does Dakota Park CL also in Lincs. One near Wisbech in Cambs has a set amount in pitch fee then metered.
