That’s a nice end to a career. He will have seen all sorts of changes down those decades.
There was another nice story about a Virgin Airlines pilot on the news a couple of days ago. He was firstly furloughed, went to work in a jam making company, packing and out on the road delivering. He was actually made redundant, but had his second job. Then he got a call and now has his old job back with Virgin Airlines, flew one of the first USA bound flights out of Manchester on Monday. A good end to his tale thankfully.

Glad to see someone appreciated.....
I spent 44 years on London Transport, 20 on the buses & 24 on the trains, with 10 as an instructor, on my last day wasn't even a local manager on hand to say thanks/goodbye..... not that I expected anything different but would've been nice to be surprised
Even at my 40 year service award there wasn't a manager there from my depot, just someone I never knew who had to ask my wife about me for something to say

when the lot that will soon be back under public ownership, as we said it would was passed to the private sector
And then I was on my way without so much as a thankyou from anyone finished on a Tuesday and have been drawing my early retirement pension since 1994
