Sorry to disappoint BB but I set up then fill up. It is a simple job as water points are never ever far away and sometimes we will use a service pitch. An Aquaroll { other makes are available} is as the name suggests roll and makes the job effortless. We are going over old ground here but I don't understand the negativity over a tool that works so well. like a pair of shoes is designed for walking to the tap with a container to fill another container......it works !
That is some mileage well done. also agree with you it does make you focus on resources.

I have never used a club site, most C.L. will charge per unit, and a few charge extra if more than two persons
a club site will charge a pitch fee & charge each person in your unit, too expencie

I notice from recent additions to the network that CL prices are rising quite substantially, particularly as some try to emulate the facilities provided by club sites. If the differential narrows too much, CL's may find that they lose business to small commercials who are often cheaper than club sites.

CY, The going rate for farm based sites with 15 or 20 pitches in this part of the world is £20 or £21 - that’s with full facilties of course. One with the Cornish name of Gwel an Nans at Cardinham near Bodmin is a good example of that type of site. Their website has photos and lists what they offer and UKCampsite has the reviews.

We stayed a great, fully serviced, CL in Northumberland last year. It was £15 a night. The owner said that they would have to increase prices for 2022 due to the electric cost rising substantially. I assume that will the case with all CL’s unfortunately.

I'm looking at CLs near Truro at the moment, we've used Carnon Downs previously but as it's well over £30 a night at this time of the year (we like to visit early Spring gardens) and the CL prices are well below the larger site offerings. Some are just as good as the bigger sites.
Although, yes, some CLs are creeping up in price but they're still unique.

It’s a good 20 years since we stayed at Penolver - the CL in Mrs Hood’s garden just south of Carson Downs. That CL is still there, and as a site in a large prolific garden is quite unique in my experience.
Loving open spaces as we do we thought it rather confined to be pitching a caravan in a garden, but the recent reviews from those who like it there are absolutely glowing.
My garden notebook says we bought a Watsonia plant from Mrs Hood while we were there - it was thriving down there for her but it sulked and died here on the edge of the moor.

Brue, not sure when you plan to visit, but you might be interested in Heligan Caravan and Camping Site. I think it opens early March. Right by Heligan, and not far from main road to Truro. We haven’t stayed, but have had a good look, and what we saw looked very nice. Early prices look ok, location is stunning.

Looks fine - but there's no way I would pay £4 p.n. for a dog. As a matter of principle, I refuse to pay extra for the dog and always avoid those sites like the plague!

I hadn’t checked out all the prices, just the pitch fees. £4 is steep to us as well. Some Sites, of all types, do like to extract every single extra they can! The location is superb though.

That is a nice one Euro, we know it but haven't used it possibly due to also enjoying a more open outlook ourselves. I've noticed more CLs in the area are staying open all year but we're looking for winter hardstandings.
TDA yes I know that one and will use it at some point for a revisit to Heligan. Sometimes rallies use the site so that would reduce the price too.
Thanks all. We're going to get back hopefully to seeing some Cornish Gardens which get going a lot earlier with their lovely spring displays, seeing Camellias, Mimosa trees and huge Magnolias is one of our yearly treats that we've missed due to Covid. My all time favourite are the gardens at Trebah, which lead down to a D Day beach on the Helford River, dogs are welcome and they have a good cafe and plant centre! Glendurgan Gardens are next door but we can't take dogs so have only been there once. There are loads more, I think we've seen most. So fingers crossed we get there soon!

Richard or Ros, Your choice is fine by me, although my choice was to avoid sites which allow unlimited numbers of dogs free of charge. One visit to Godrevy convinced me long ago.

Not sure why a thread about CLs has been diverted into yet another debate about dogs ("one might suspect it's deliberate"
) but in all our years of using CLs we never came across one which wouldn't accept dogs, though I dare say they exist, in fact, I can't remember ever being charged! 👍3 -
I did, and it’s what got the thread a couple of days closed. It’s got nothing to do with trying to help brue find somewhere to stay in Cornwall, merely incidental to the site I suggested. So let’s keep this open and help a fellow member who always tries to help others👍 🙏

Thanks TDA, although sometimes I get things wrong
....but I'll update later when we decide on which CL and finally make our visit.Got to sort some new bedding for the van first, more on line shopping!

We have kicked off the New Year on one of our favourite CLs, first of many for another year, we hope. College Farm, beautiful village of Alkborough in North Lincolnshire. Nice few days of very mixed weather, but good to get some fresh air, a bit of exercise and some birdwatching.😁
