The R.Y.A latest news for boaters in the " Shengen Areas" ,is that the RYA are negotiating for a SIX MONTH visa for touring in those waters .This would be an reciprocal arrangement ,as those from the E.U can tour here in the U.K at the moment .

This could be very good news for touring motor homes and caravanners throughout the " Shengen Areas" too ,negating the 180 stay rules ??  !!

    With whom are they negotiating? Only the UK Government and the EU can change that and the UK Government seem steadfastly against the idea? The irony is that whilst as a UK citizen can only stay in the EU for 90 days, EU citizens are allowed to stay here in the UK for up to six months. Just another one of the many stupidities of the so called Brexit deal.

    Sounds good get them to spend their money over here for six months , and ensure UK citizens get back here to spend their money back homecoolwink

    As I understand it the RYA have proposed for those who negotiate to consider. Wishful thinking?

    I remember becoming a signature on an On Line Petition about this - i.e. why can't the Brits get 180 day visa for the EU in the same way as Eu Nationals get 180 days when visiting the UK?.

    By nature of the very high number of signatories - the Government was obliged to reply.  This reply (and I paraphrase) said that the visit period was not agreed by Brexit but rather it referred to existing legislation.  If you arrive in the UK with a visa then you are it seems allowed to stay for 180 days - if you arrive in Germany or Holland with the same sort of visa - then you only get 90 days.

    Hope this helps explain this annoying anomaly.

    Perhaps it is on the Agenda for Lord Frost to discuss and maybe try to amend but I doubt it somehow!!

    Nor me, what we need is pragmatism but I suspect that is somewhat missing from people with a certain mind set. Whilst it would be a nice to have that UK citizens could stay in the EU for longer periods, I worry that there are a lot more things that need sorting before that. What with COVID we haven't yet seen a return to the levels of trips to Europe that we had before the pandemic. Even our once modest 6/8 week trips either side of the school summer holidays would need adjusting in length to comply with the new rules which we could manage but it is those that like to over winter for longer than three months, or who want two longer trips  that will find the new rules most difficult. There is a simple answer but I fear I would be straying too far towards a political opinion if I mentioned itwink
