WiFi question

We’ve just had an excellent weekend staying at the Clumber park site.

For the first time since becoming a club member, I had to buy the WiFi, as there is never any mobile coverage at Clumber.

I was surprised to find I could only use the WiFi on the device I purchased it on.

Is this the norm, or have I missed something.

It has always be the case that it is single user only. Even with two people it can become very expensive just for a weekend if you are buying daily passes everyday. The only way of overcoming that is if you have wireless router and aerial, like a Solway, which can pick up the Club WiFi which you can then redistribute to phones and computers in the van. That would probably be frowned upon but it could be done but you have to balance that against how many times you are likely to be on a Club site without a phone signal.

Not sure if it’s changed but you always used to be able to use it on another device but not at the same time. You have to log out of the club Wi-fi on the first device before logging on the second.

Looking in the Q&As I found this. Cheers JVB66.

This info took some finding and is not easily available.

“All packages are configured to be used on a single device at any one time.

To connect another device, ensure you type "logout.net" in your address bar on the first device and click the log off button.

Then on the next device you want to use, connect to the Wi-Fi network by opening a browser so that the Caravan and Motorhome Club Wi-Fi connection page appears. Click the login button to begin the login process as normal.”

I logged out with my device but never typed the “logout.net” first. I will try it next time if I need to use the WiFi again, although I’ve managed for 20 years so far not needing it😀

"how many times you are likely to be on a Club site without a phone signal."

Seems  to me a lot of club sites have no mobile service, but of course depends on the provider. Mine is EE (advertised as the best), but its actually rubbish. Brighton site recently, no service. Exmoor House, no service. CL at Hutton le Hole, no service. Dornafield AS, no service unless you climb the hill. Grarfham Water, limited service outside the van, none inside ( insulation I guess). My home village, no service.

I just wait until I leave the site for whatever reason. IMHO, the club wifi is not worth paying for. Personal choice.

Just one provider does leave you a bit vulnerable. My phone is on EE, the OH’s on O2. Between them we are very rarely without a 4G signal. Clumber excepted, which is in a dead spot. A signal is available on EE and O2 about 200 metres up the park road you come in on.

Agreed. There are reasons for it.

I have a "mifi" which takes any sim and am thinking about getting a vodaphone or O2 data only sim for caravan trips.
