Bought our new swift last year cost £24.5K story so far front door when closed and locked can see outside, shower tray leaking, bathroom tap new one fitted leaking, sargent unit replaced couldnt set or calibrate when using,  cabinet door locks stick,  central heating fins bent. We had a Swift van many years ago changed for Hobby caravans never had an issue with any of our 3 vans. Took a break in caravanning when kids grew up. Bought our new van as many friends assured us the quality of British vans had changed. To date Swift caravans you are a real joke to refer us back to the dealer its your poor build quality and you who manufactures the van. My advice keep clear of British caravans.

Things have seemingly  not improved since the early 1990s then? When we were young and financially stretched by:two kids,a mortgage and 1.5 wages coming in we saved up and bought a six month old Swift Danette.Big mistake as it was a two wheeled load of junk. The manufacturers were totally unhelpful as it was "a second hand van"(sic)even though it was still in warranty. The dealership grudgingly carried out some repairs initially but damp repairs later cost us a lot to repair at a time when we were pushed to afford them.

As our lives and finances changed we moved on to Burstner caravans and never had any major issues and the few minor ones were fully supported and rectified by the Dealer(Camper UK)and Burstner.

When Burstner stopped importing caravans to the UK in 2006 we moved on to motorhomes.

Now in our mid-sixties we have had three motorhomes made by Autotrail,Nu Venture(Campers)  and currently Autosleeper. All of the dealerships and British manufacturers have been very supportive when we have had a few minor glitches.British units are not all inferior to imports, despite the urban myths.

Note that I have never again bought anything from Swift or their dealerships.Once bitten twice shy!

I must be unique in that I had three Swift caravans between 1998 and 2013 and all were excellent. Prior to that I had CI caravan, probably made in Newmarket, which we had for nearly nine years and again trouble free for eight of those nine years when we had to have the awning rail resealed. Of course there will always be rogue caravans as there are other products like cars, washing machines and TV's. Consumer law always points you back to the dealer or retailer as the first point of redress, if they can't correct the issues to your satisfaction you have the option of rejecting the van.

I've had a Swift Challenger from new for 11 years and only had very minor issues, none of which were down to build quality.

I will be changing it within the next 12 months for another brand new van and i am not put of Swift at all.

Goes to show they are not all bad and there is little to choose between them when problems occur, to me it is not the issues it is the way they are dealt with that is important
