Jacking points on a Coachman twin axle caravan

Hi

I have just bought a 2021 Coachman Laser 675 and have had twin auto motor movers fitted. To get these fitted the jacking points had to be removed along with the spare wheel carrier. How do I  jack up the caravan to fit the rear Alco lock. Anyone know how. Any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance.

Brian.

You could use a trolley jack under the axle or use an alternative wheel lock.

Get yourself a Lock'n'Level for a twin axle. You will be able to easily fit the Alco wheel lock and level the caravan at the same time.

I would think a different. type of wheel lock,, we had a trolley jack (now in amongst the other good idea at the time bits),as I got fed up with scrabbling under the cVan getting. It under the axle tube, Never use c/van chassis to Jack it up, if no deducted jacking points as now in your case

Can't get a trolley jack under far enough to reach the axle. don't fancy crawling underneath in the rain or wet ground. Looking for something easy. I've looked at the lock &  Level too expensive no guarantee it won't puncture. Yes it works well. This is the email i had from Coachman. I think any manufacture should look into this and find something better on the Alco chassis.

    Thanks for the replies

    Thank you for your email.

I understand the Alko chassis is designed for use with the Alko motor movers, if you have had an alternative option fitted then I believe they also supply additional brackets for the jacking points, unfortunately, as we do not supply or fit motor movers I would have to refer you back to the dealership that installed the movers.

I regret on this occasion I’m unable to assist you more positively.

    Kind regards

Mmmm, AlKo and  caravan manufacturers are well known for being unhelpful!

You either need to use a trolley jack under the axle (works for me......twin axle Sterling Searcher 2008 model) ......or the lock and level.....or a ŵ different wheel lock.

I use a trolly jack to lift my twin axle Coachman Laser 620/4 And where does it say you can't lift a caravan under its chassis? Obvious you wouldn't try at the ends, but under the chassis by the axles has never been a problem ..... & it's where the mobile tyre fitter jacked my caravan too.

If you get a puncture how do you propose to get the wheel changed if the van can’t be jacked up. I would say lock n level would be your best bet. As for the price it’s a drop in the ocean compared to the price of your van.

I think you will find using the chassis to jack is a no no , the only place is where the axle is mounted ,that is strong enough,

The only way a lightweight alko chassis as fitted to most UK caravans should be lifted by jacks ii by air jacks as the pressure area is much larger than with a conventional jack

Is the axle not mounted on the chassis

I don't know what happened to the post I put on here, yesterday.  It seems to have disappeared!  I have been using L 'n L on a TA van for the last six years or so and wouldn't have been without it.  In my opinion / experience, it's the only safe way to facilitate the fitting of twin Alko locks - especially on soft ground where I wouldn't want to be risking jacks of any sort.

I don't understand the fear of them puncturing.  On grass, it's never going to be a problem and on hard standings, I always used a length of industrial rubber matting to protect the air bag.  Plus - providing you make sure that the transfer valve is closed once the bags are inflated - even in the unlikely event of one bag getting a puncture, the other one's going to stay inflated, therefore supporting the van.

As for expense - less than the cost of staying on a CL for two weeks and as said above, a miniscule amount compared to the cost of the van.

I've had to move to the E&P hydraulic levelling system because of mobility problems which is the ultimate solution, but obviously, there's no point in suggesting that!

As I only have a single axle van it is a piece of cake using the lock on a site, because having all that room on a pitch you can get the lock and receiver lined up without using a jack.
