How lovely, great to see wildlife nearby. We had a hedgehog trundling around this teatime. Normally we would be a bit concerned at seeing one out in daylight, but it seemed a good weight, and very active, so we left it alone.

Re Bathsheba ....Received another reply from David Austin. They stated its rain that causes this type of rose to brown and die ( even though I informed them the problem started before the heavy rain showers ) when rain i is imminent then cut the blooms and put in a vase. my reply , I think this problem with this particular type of rose should be part of the discription in  their catalogue . And had I known this I would not have purchased it .

Disappointing for you Hostahousey. DA roses can be a bit lax, probably inbreeding but some are good. I bought a small climber called Strawberry Hill and that's a bit floppy but not as bad as Claire Austin which is very spindly just now. I think many roses start off with weak growth and then strengthen up but some aren't very weather resistant, just have to hope for better weather if it's a repeat flowerer?

This is Claire Austin, nice if you lift up the heads!

Yes Brue I'll keep a watch on the weather and as they recommend, if rain is imminent then cut off the buds and save in a vase......baaaaaaa I don't think so.  I am really miffed about this recommendation from one of the country's top rose grower. On the brighter side my Hostas and clematis are doing fine.

Well you're lucky to be able to grow such healthy hostas so that's a big plus! We've never had any luck. smile

Didn't know they had a second flush Hostahousey, ours is new and hasn't grown much this year. I think we should have bought a much bigger plant!

Mine do this most years , but only a very few blooms . This year is a one off possibly caused by the late frosts that killed most early buds.

Best advice I was ever given is-‘shop for Wisteria in may Or June’, don’t let anyone tell you they will flower unless you see it, also check they’re grafted if not they can take 20yrs to establish🙁

On our travels this week, a visit to Arlington Court, a lovely Devon estate, Covid has done the NT a favour and they have left the grass to grow with mown paths to enjoy. Nice old Tulip tree close to the house. The walled gardens were looking good, easy to miss the little door into the second garden. The Ginger Lilies had a good scent.

(Back home our Wisteria has taken off! Thanks for advice!)

    Some Autumn Brights! 🍁

I bought the dahlia recently, hope I can get it through the winter. This year they'll be dug up, I lost the previous ones leaving them in the ground. 🌱

Some lovely shots since I last posted😁 I love this time of year, spider’s webs covered in dew, the gorgeous rusts and gold as leaves start to turn, fungi springing up everywhere, some last flurries of roses, and the Autumn bulbs. I planted some Nerine around 15 years ago. One has finally flowered this year😂

That's strange TDA, we too only have one Nerrine in flower and we don't even know how it got there! It really is Autumn now, the last of the garden flowers on show. Veg are growing for the winter, having survived pigeons and caterpillars!

I watched Carole Klein on ch5 this week, she included Salvias in the programme. Interestingly we stayed at a CL called Uplands in Devon this year and it was just up the road from Glebe Cottage.

On a daily walk on Friday we spotted a small clump of snowdrops in flower and a daffodil in full bloom smile, the birds seem to be more vocal too, maybe spring is on it's way.

Nothing in bloom here yet, not even hellebores, but things are growing. I am enjoying tidying our garden, and discovering what is coming back again. Far too mild for a true Yorkshire Winter though, it’s been 15-10 degrees these last three days, so some stuff is budding up way too early. I think it’s in for a shock this coming week, forecast I’d for much colder.

Agree about the birds, lots of twittering here👍😁

More tulips, crocus and alliums planted today (a bit late, but the6 will come up). And a huge Amaryllis bulb potted up and now inside. Nice gift from a neighbour friend. Never grown one before.

I had a craze for Amaryllis TDA, the bulbs keep from year to year so you really get your money's worth! Hope you enjoy your gift. 🌸
