Many of us will have to defrost freezers from time to time so when I did ours a couple of days ago I suddenly had a thought how I could not only speed up the job but also make sure all the meltwater was out. I have always used a fan heater to very gently blow in warm air to speed the melting of the ice but the next bit is my latest idea that worked very efficiently. I used our wet and dry vacuum cleaner to suck out all the meltwater. It not only gets the water out quickly but also sucks the residual drops that lurk behind the pipework and in the little nooks and crannies.

I know not everyone has a wet and dry vacuum cleaner but for those that do, I can certainly recommend the idea. Make sure that you have a plastic nozzle on the end of the pipe to prevent damage in the freezer.
