Generators
Hi fellow tourers, I have just been told by a caravan and motorhome repair and accessories shop that they do not advise me to use a petrol generator for everyday us while touring as they can damage the electric circuit in my motorhome, does anyone know if this is true as I am about to by one.??!!

Just for your information in case you're not aware as it might influence your decision - you're not permitted to use a generator on a club site between the hours of 1800 hrs and 0900 hrs.
Have you considered a solar panel as an alternative - also more acceptable to the neighbours.

If it is not a good pure sine wave generator, it may well result in damage to sensitive equipment. I had an old generator, not smoothed and it used to play havoc with my electrical control panel. I gave it away and got a pure sine wave genny which I hardly use now because I have managed to charge the latest bike batteries via the leisure battery and an inverter. A solar panel keeps the leisure and engine battery charged the latter via a Battery Master.
I occasional use the generator at home and its there if the mains electricity dies on me.
