It's not something I have done and you need far more information than I can give you but the details for each tour will be set out in writing from the Club in the tour arrangements

But in brief, you will need to make your own travel arrangements and pay separately for crossing the channel and to get to the first site overseas. From there on the tour price will include site fees during the tour, the services of a group leader, certain excursions as set out in the programme, and a specified number of group meals and activities.

Then you make your own way home, or with someone you have met on the tour.

They always look terribly overpriced for what you get.

I have moved this into the Overseas section as I think more will see it here and will be able to offer advice. I hope that ValDa will see it as I seem to recall she actually ran one of these trips to France a few years ago so she will be able to give you a personal insight.

Our first trip to France in 1987 was with a Club organised trip. For those not confident to go it alone until they have a bit of experience under their belt it is an excellent way of getting an introduction to overseas touring. For others they might like the idea of travelling and joining in with a group of like minded souls. You need to check out the itineraries for the various trips you are interested in. Some will include more than others. You will have to make your own way between sites and sometimes find sites en route but the itinerary will be clear on that. Value of such things is in the eye of the beholder because you will certainly be able to do the trip at a lower cost as a solo traveller. However any organised trip will have extra expenses beyond what the solo traveller will encounter but you have to weigh that up between the two. I am sure there are many people who wouldn't go abroad on their own but are comfortable doing it as group.

Edit to my post. I have had a message from Val and she reminded me that it was not a tour that she ran but a single site taster trip not far from Calais so perhaps doesn't quite fit with the OP's question. However she did say that everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves despite the limitations of the trip.

Definitely not for us but I expect (hope?) that the club makes a modest profit on these so am quite happy for others to partake as it subsidises other things.
