Yes, our C&CC membership has been extended by three months.  Seems quite fair to me.

What I have learned from reading this discussion is to not look at any news medium while away holidaying. Not difficult some of the places I  go!

Are you saying you can't swap sites on the CCC, or it is difficult to do?

I suppose folks will make most decisions based on their personal circumstances, I know we do. We had no need for a CAMC membership from April through to September, so we just took a break. It’s only that list of easily utilised and very diverse CL Sites, that is probably 95% the reason for our Membership, with the odd stay on a Club Site. The fact that most of the sites we prefer, some racecourses, the no facility sites, haven’t opened this year was another factor to ponder on. There’s no emotion or sense of loyalty involved, (leaving aside not wanting to see any staff losses,) we could still tour easily without either Club. Our choice not to utilise things like Centres and Rallies which might give Membership more of a “Club” feel. We always get our fees back in special offers.

Only joined C&CC for a year, many years ago back when I camped a few times a year, so wanted small sites but with loos and showers. We used one Club Site, although have been on a few Sites that later ended up under the C&CC umbrella, such as Beddgelert. Still got the BigBook, some Listed Sites, you don’t need to be a Member.

I haven't seen or read that holiday travel is banned in areas of Wales which aren't in lockdown, much like the rest of the UK there are advisory statements about travel in some places. In certain defined areas it's essential travel only and sites have closed.

We've been members of both clubs for a number of years, I've swapped and cancelled bookings with both in the exceptional circumstances of this year, no problems so far. The C&CC "my bookings" area stopped functioning, I haven't checked to see if it is OK now but I have had the reminders as usual.

I would imagine that we are all conducting our personal "risk assessment" of trips at the present time. That would include the likelihood of circumstances changing in our proposed destination.

Whilst I can understand the ethical dimension of WTG's decision, the consequences would have formed part of the initial "risk assessment" when planning the trip I would imagine. A week ago, parts of Wales were already looking a bit "iffy".

WTG, Sorry you were not well looked after  - and then predictably criticised on here too. For myself I try to avoid chains of nationally run campsites, hotels , restaurants and pubs - and generally find privately owned, independent businesses altogether better at customer service. Best regards to you.

Quoted from previous post which doesn’t surprise me.  “my overseas friends  are traveling as normal booking nothing and finding sites even quieter than usual.”

Just a thought - Maybe many UK citizens/LV users are supporting the UK economy by spending time away here although it appears from posts on CT it is not easy to make a club site booking even now the schools are back.  I guess other UK pitch providers will also benefit from LV users not travelling elsewhere during this pandemic. Stay safe everyone.

That is true with any "one man bands"in any industry where they have the freedom to make decisions. without the"suits"to answer to

It does depend where in the country. We have been away since the beginning of September and should have been away for another couple of weeks. However, as the sites we were booked into are in the high / red zone of the north east, have decided to cut our tour short and head home. Although it's not just the areas,  rates are rising generally and I think we will be safer at home. It would seem that others have done a similar risk assessment and cancelled. The sites that we were stopping in were previously a sea of orange, now they show significant availability.

All our later year bookings for this year are still in place at this time, but  will be cancelling if as it seems is expected,, the virus takes hold again,

We have just watched the Andrew Marr show and the expert from Edinborough ,does not hold out much hope for some time to come and as he says the whole world that is affected are hoping what ever they do is some help in containing it

I too have just cut short a tour after two weeks away. I cancelled a couple of sites losing my deposit at one of them. I decided on this mainly because of an injury and difficulty getting about but what tipped it over the edge was the steep rise in CV19 cases and the thought I would be better off at home.

While I enjoyed what break we had, it did feel too constrained and I admit to having thoughts that it is no longer worth going away in the current climate, certainly on longer trips, but perhaps the odd few days, two to three nights on a CL, just for a change of scenery might be acceptable.

We have booked a few days in North Norfolk for a couple of weeks time. Fortunately it's a CMC site so we have some flexibility regarding cancellation. The reality is that North Norfolk is one of the areas of the country with below average infection rates. Also being on a campsite is probably even lower risk, especially if you use your own facilities. However if at the back of your mind you have the recurring thought that you are placing yourself in greater risk I can see that not going is a safer and more comfortable option.

The OP has mentioned she is soon to pick up a new motorhome. In those circumstances I think I would want to spend at least a couple of nights away to check everything was working satisfactorily and it would also be an opportunity to give the engine a good run.

    David

Well, the excellent customer service I've received have come from both small and multi national organisations, such as Brittany Ferries and UK Insurance and Riviera Travel as well as Cl owners and Commercial sites. so they are not all "one man bands".

I assume the larger organisations have "suits" to answer to.

Suits is a quaint turn of phrase, especially when many employees are working from home and having to deal with many things on their own just now. I fear some are expecting too much.

It sounds as if you have the near perfect location from which to check out your new van.  Just need to give it a run to check out the mechanics.

We're away at the moment, on the 10th night of this tour, the 104th of this year, and are booked up till the second week in November. At the moment we intend being away all that time, mainly on CLs,  and hopefully more, but should a lockdown occur we'll just head home, and prepare to set off again when allowed.
