Cancelling Brittany Ferries Booking
A word of caution for those of you about to cancel crossings with Brittany Ferries. I have just cancelled my flexi booking for later on this week. This meant I would have a refund less the initial deposit. However when I cancelled the booking on the BF website it indicated there would be no refund at all. I did not get any acknowledgement or email confirmation that the booking had been cancelled.
I contacted BF on the phone and was advised the fault was at their end. They said they would override the system and issue a refund. Obviously something is going wrong somewhere.
On the upside they were very quick to answer the phone.
Incidentally, full marks to HSBC travel insurance. One short call and within minutes the claim for the loss of deposit was accepted and the money is being transferred direct to my account. It was astonishingly easy. I didn't have to send them anything. Absolute superb service.

My understanding up to now has been that if the customer is the one to cancel a B/F ferry which is still going to sail then there will only be a 75% refund, even for a Flexi ticket.
But if the customer finds in advance that the ferry in question is going to be cancelled then it pays to wait for the ferry company themselves to cancel - in which case the customer can argue or negotiate for a refund in full.
But the situation and responses from B/F seem infinitely variable - and it even appears that there are still sailings listed on their timetable but which will not in fact be going to sail .
So I am glad they are answering their phones now so it has become easier for customers to check. Thanks for that news. I am glad you have it sorted out.

We had a similar problem earlier in the year when lock-down was first introduced. The balance was refunded quickly by BF but they kept the deposit as it was us that had cancelled. Fortunately our travel insurance with RBS (now Nat West.) refunded the lost deposit less £10 a head excess.
To avoid it happening again we have transferred our September BF reservation to April 2021at no cost, another good reason for having flexi-tickets from BF.
