Avtex Tourer One update
I want to update the software and maps on my CAMC version Avtex 770 as I have done for the last two years. I have tried connecting the device to 4 different WiFi networks and despite it connecting every time when I have tried to run 'Update' I get a message immediately saying that the device can't contact the update server and advising me to try again later. This has been going on for days.
I have also tried updating the software and maps using Garmin Express on my MacBook. The MacBook can see the USB connected device. Garmin Express shows that updates are available, but fails to recognise that the device is connected to the MacBook.
Has anyone else had similar issues?

Can you post the link you are trying to reach as we might be able to check it out for you which may narrow down the problem?

I assume, Aminthule, that you are attempting to update via your Garmin account which is what we do.
I haven't done ours for a while so it'll be interesting to see if we get the same result. For now, I can't answer your question but it's useful to know in advance that there may be gremlins in the system.
Have you contacted Garmin?

Hi Tinwheeler,
I'm sorry, but do not understand what you mean when you talk about updating via my Garmin account. When I have updated the Avtex Tourer unit previously as far as I recall I have done so by connecting the unit to a WiFi network then selecting the menu option on the unit to Update software and maps. I have tried doing that this time and tried on 4 different WiFi networks, every time I select Update I immediately get this message on the unit "Cannot communicate with the update server. Try installing updates later." I've now been trying this for days.
I have also tried updating using the Garmin Express, installing the software on my MacBook and connecting to my MacBook with the original USB cable supplied with the unit. Unfortunately, though the MacBook is aware of the attached unit, Garmin Express cannot detect it, so I can't set up the relevant unit in Garmin Express and apply the updates.
I haven't contacted GARMIN yet as they don't list the AVTEX Tourer in their support area. I assume that it is essentially a Garmin Camper 770, but presumably is modified for CAMC purposes. I will try Avtex.

I’m afraid I’m out of my depth here, Aminthule, but good luck with getting it sorted.

Hi Aminthule I've got the Avtex Tourer one. I've just tried for updates, as I updated my maps a month or so ago I only had a software update. My device connected OK and did the update, I was checking to see if the Garmin server was down, but it seems OK. I'm not sure what else you can try other than a device reset by holding the power key for 12 seconds. The manual only suggests this if the device stops working, but it might be worth a try. A bit like the "switch it off and on again" for computers.

For anyone that is interested.....
This morning I installed Garmin Express on my partner's Windows-based laptop. I ran Garmin Express and I was prompted to plug in the Avtex unit, but despite the Windows operating system being aware of the unit plugged in to the laptop Garmin Express could not see it. After repeating this several times i.e. starting Garmin Express, plugging the Avtex unit in to a USB port, with the same results, I noticed a prompt from Windows that requested me to say what I wanted to do with the Avtex unit that Windows could see plugged in. Clicking on that message produced a menu. I selected the menu option that allowed me to look at the Avtex device as a storage device in Windows Explorer. Hey presto! Garmin Express could suddenly see the Avtex unit and I was able to run the update successfully.
It appears that Garmin Express is not necessarily aware of the Avtex unit when it is plugged into the Windows PC (or presumably an Apple MacBook etc. too given my previous experience).
Interestingly, now that I have successfully updated both the software and the maps on the Avtex unit via Garmin Express on the Windows Laptop when I connect the unit directly to a WiFi network the unit finds the Update Server successfully (which it wasn't doing previously) and tells me the software and maps are up to date. So updating the unit via a WiFi connection would presumably now work if there were updates to apply.
Thanks for your assistance..............
