Can you cut out/convert a sewn in groundsheet?

Long story short, we've swapped our awning for a folding camper to a driveaway style awning, which is great, but it has a sewn in PE groundsheet.  We've always used breathable before when using one, but this wasn't an option with what we were looking for.

I'm wondering if we could do anything to convert the awning we have now - we've got an Outwell Rev Movelite T5 Kombi awning...thinking could cut out the sewn in groundsheet so could go groundsheet free/breathable when on grass, or fashion some kind of velcro fasteners to reattach the original when on hard standing.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of someone making this kind of modification?  Does anyone have any experience of these air awnings (my concern is the groundsheet is not just there for convenience but in someway structural, and would prevent it being pitched if it wasn't there?

Be great to get thoughts from anyone that can contribute on this specifically!

Thanks in advance!
