Hi everybody,

Last year when we were a small family of 3; we accidentally bought an old caravan.

It happened so suddenly and unplanned that we couldn't believe it for a long time. We just went to legoland for a weekend trip and came back home with 1.3 tonnes in the hook.

To be honest we were quite on the low income side. Both studying and working part time plus a toddler... The caravan had just been serviced and passed the inspection so we were thinking to drive it down south to Greece. The price seemed to be low around 2k eur...  Our son's love with it and seeing him play inside was the reason why we had bought the old Hobby Prestige 545, 1994.

The short 80 km trip woke me up from the dream. When we drive we had to keep it very short as our baby doesn't like to be on the car seat. I figured we cant go faster than 80 with our 1.9 tdi, 90 hk engine. Also luckily i had a friend whose parents had a caravan so he pointed out some very important safety aspects. Our car is an old but very well taken care skoda octavia with half a million km s on the counter, but the back suspension and springs was not in very good condition. With his advice we left the caravan back home for another trip and had our driving holidays around europe last summer without it.

Now we are a family member of 4. Our income level is slightly better so i was considering buying a new car to pull it around and go on holidays with it. Thinking of 3000km trip south to Crete. Most cars i can afford are with a 1.5tsi 150 hk benzin engine if its new(with a 9 year loan of course). Is it a terrible idea? Should i just stick to our old skoda with a trustworthy 1.9 tdi ALH engine by replacing the suspensions and springs ? Or shall i forget about it and sell the caravan and try it when i can afford a bigger car?

Thanks a lot in advance
