Monaco and Motorhomes.

Not that it may affect anyone anytime soon, but last night's programme about the lavish lifestyle of Monaco did have some interest to Motorhomers, I guess it would also apply to touring vans.

The law prohibits Motorhomes from using the roads of Monaco, the country also has a zero tolerance to crime, so even minor transgression is met with prosecution, not sure what the punishment for this criminal activity, but the food in the Jail was said to be first rate.

Can't imagine doing a handbrake turn at the Lowes Hairpin with a large Hymer.

Park and ride anyone.

Hope we get back to touring soon.

Why would anyone want to drive a motorhome or tow a caravan through Monaco?

Surely it makes sense to stay at a site outside the Principality and travel  in by train or bus. We have done so and the bus fares were 1euro per journey. (Of course they may now have increased the fares.)

Fully agree and 2 euro is probably much cheaper than the fine, but one was shown being stopped by police.

    Forewarned etc.

What a great programme it was though!

If only the UK had the same proportion of police and the same attitude to lawbreakers.

My knowledge of Monaco's roads is from watching the F1. That is enough to convince me that a visit by vehicle would probably be something of a nightmare. In a world beset by poverty, I find the ostentatious over-consumption rather disturbing. Fascinating nonetheless.

I have to say I fail to see why anyone would want to go there at all.

For many Brits it is the F1 that attracts them. The weekend of the Grand Prix is very exciting, especially the noise. If you arrive by train, where the station (and a lot of other things) are underground you emerge from the station to the surround sound of F1, but only a fan would appreciate that. We went in 2005, stay along the coast and went in by train. Simon was working there so we had access to the Paddock (on a non race day) which added to the excitement. Its probably worth a visit but wouldn't see it as repeat destination, other than for the Grand Prix when I can afford better seats!!!
