Hi all. Hope you are all well.

Unfortunately my 'dream' of buying a motorhome have not come to fruition but due to circumstances in my life the need and desire is still present to escape and tour - so am now looking at purchasing a caravan which is a lot cheaper. However, with there being differences to having a motorhome I need to restart my research and seek help. So, as a complete novice with regards this I have some questions.

How do I find out what weight my car can tow? I presume it may tell me somewhere in the manual but are there any tips of understanding this or any other things to look out for? Presume I have to have a garage fit the electrics needed for the lights etc and presume I need another number plate - how and where does one order that from? (And a tow bar will probably help!!!!!tongue-out)

Are they differences between being able to park up and 'sleep' in 'non-site' places with a caravan to a motorhome? Can you 'sleep' in laybys, service stations (one presumes if lorries can do it so can caravaners?????), car parks.

Is there any other way of topping up with water and empting loos etc other than on sites - although this is not so much problem to do every now and then but can't afford to stop on a site everynight. How often do you have to top up water and empty loos?

Do I need 'extra' insurance for the car for towing a caravan? I believe it is not actaully a requirement to insure a caravan itself but seeing as I will be touring in it pretty much permenantly for a year or more - is this worth doing and any recommendations?

Anything else you can think off for a novice will be greatly appreciated. I felt quite knowledgeable about doing this with a motorhome but feel I'm a bit back to square one with now looking at towing and caravanning.

Many thanks
