Same here AD, we are due to travel on the 3rd September.

Checked our insurance cover and as long as the country of destination isn't on the list, we will be covered even if we have to travel through a country on the list.

In theory we could then go via the tunnel, travel to Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy. On return we could fill up in Germany then drive straight to the tunnel and cross back to the UK without having to Quarantine on return.

We have however decided that it is to risky, if the borders are closed or Germany also goes on the list (their numbers are going up) it could cause problems, if the 'all but essential travel' changes to 'all travel' then again there would be problems.

We have still to get in touch with the C&MC regards our tunnel crossing, we are giving them time to sort out those who are travelling before us. Here's hoping we get a credit note for future use.

Well Tammygirl, we today decided to cancel our trip to Germany and Italy starting 1 Sep for reasons similar to yours and AD's  We had booked direct with Eurotunnel (using Tesco Vouchers) and can rearrange the crossing with 12 months.  Spent 4 hours arranging sites in UK for first 3 weeks in Sep they are very busy.  Now have to take sun canopy off caravan and remember to take the full awning and wellies!  Roll on next Spring.

We had intended to have three week break in france starting 26 August. but with the probability of  French quarantine- it seems unlikely that we will be going.Haven't heard from CC yet, but i reckon that they are up to their eyes in it at present. I have never used insurance but sod's law is that this time we would need to. May go to Scotland instead.

We've have today got in touch via live chat with the C&MC about our tunnel crossing. According to T&C's we can amend the booking for anytime in the next 12 months but if its not used by then we will lose it.

We have moved it to February just now as that is as far the booking window goes just now. We can then move the booking to April/May  once the dates are released by Eurotunnel.

We already have a ferry booked for April  2021 going to Spain but that is direct with BF on flexi so we can bump that. We also have a ferry booked with BF on flexi which should have been our return this October. I will have to go online and bump that now until a further date.

I hope we all manage to get to go away next year, think the sites might be a bit busy laughing

We've also been busy booking sites in the UK, they certainly are busy, I wonder how many though are just speculative bookings.

    May go to Scotland instead.

I wouldn't Scotland is full, we are heading south to get away from it laughing

I've never seen so many caravans and MH's going up the A9.

Reports coming back to us, is that MH's are parked all over the place, many irresponsibly so. Blocking entrances and exits, some of the roads are narrow and emergency services would have great difficulty getting through if they were needed.

The highlands are used to this in the summer months but this year its been far worse than anything before it. We are going away for a few days in our MH but using a site, will have to be careful though if we take it out for the day, as some 'folk' are not being very nice surprised

I cxld our France trip a couple of weeks back only to find most of the Uk is full.  i did manage to find a site in Devon and booked for the month of September, have used site before and i am hoping that if i dont stay the full month they will give me a credit to be carried forward.

I know we have had many posts on MH's but i find this very disturbing now as we have a similar situation here

I hope all goes well for you. It’s the potential 14 day quarantine that would worry me, not the lack of insurance. Unless you have a specific issue that warrants the cost of insurance e.g. must return by a certain date for work then “self insurance” should be fine. Take care, check car and caravan before leaving.

Does anyone know the status of quarantine when entering France at the moment?

I have a good friend, my age, and very fit and healthy.  Last year he was on holiday in Malta and tripped and broke his hip.  Was hospitalised, all extra costs covered (wife's prolonged stay in a hotel etc), medical flight back to UK.  He had insurance.  EHIC would probably just have covered Emergency treatment and in France covers approx  70% of non life threatening illnesses.   Travel without insurance at your risk.

As I type have not seen anything about entering France at moment, just take plenty of face masks as they seem to have to be worn everywhere!

I have always taken out insurance, (Red Pennant), not because of any existing health issues but in case of something unexpected such as a serious motoring accident, (whether my fault or not) or an accidental trip or slip off a step etc. Something as innocuous as the latter could result in a long stay in a hospital. Personally I don't think it is worth the risk. EHIC, whilst we still have it may be OK for some things but not all.

Has anyone read anything about EHIC's continuation or alternative arrangements? I haven't and that benefit ends in December.

'I have spent thousands on travel insurance over the last 40 years and never needed to make a claim but it would be nothing compared with a serious or even not so serious claim.

However no matter how sensible the decision has been we are still gutted that our plans for the year have been lost and we are of an age where we dont want to waste any.'.

Same here, feel cross at the loss of a year's touring abroad and not getting any younger!

originally it was thought that if the UK agreed to provide medical cover Spain and France would reciprocate , guess they are the 2 biggest holiday countries, but Brexit not going too well so anything could happen.

Tammygirl - did CAMC charge an amendment fee for the booking that you moved temporarily to February?

And will they charge another amendment fee when you change it to April/May?
