Prohibited from travel due to Corona virus.

I booked a ferry to France through the club, sailing on 01/06/2020.

Today I received a letter from Public Health England, telling me I am restricted to my home for 12 weeks and to avoid all face to face contact.

Obviously my ferry sailing falls within the 12 weeks period, so I will not be allowed to undertake my journey on the grounds of public safety.

Where do I stand as far as a refund of my ferry costs are concerned?

I'd leave it for now and then contact the club when things calm down a bit. I think it'll be one of QI'S nobody knows at the mo!

    Stay safe.

Edit did you have to register for letter etc? OH falls in the vulnerable category.  Heard nothing yet. But being as sensible as we can.

Without wanting to appear rude, surely this isn't the place for a definitive answer.

Surely you should be asking the ferry company and/or your holiday medical insurance company.

We were due to travel from Portsmouth mid April booked direct with BF, they have closed their phone lines so you cannot call them, however there is a form you can fill in giving details of your booking and they will at some stage get back to you.

We have done that but as of yet not heard anything from them, on their front page it says ferries cancelled until 14th April, we are due to travel on the 15th. Now that the situation in Spain has got much worse and that UK is in a near lock down situation I'm expecting BF to get in touch and offer a full refund or a voucher for future travel. IF they don't then there is always the holiday insurance or the credit card I paid it on.

FWIW, I believe that the Travel Industry Rules have been revised by the Transport Secretary so that Airlines, Ferries et al [who currently have no income] are not bankrupted  by being obliged to make cash refunds to customers whose trips are cancelled because of the coronavirus crisis.

I think that the fine detail is still to be resolved, but the broad approach is that Travel Companies can offer deferred travel vouchers that will be valid for 2 years. If the customer has not taken the trip during this period, then [s]he can request a cash refund, and the Government [i.e. us taxpayers!] will act as guarantors of the scheme in the event of companies entering insolvency/administration/liquidation in the interim.

I suspect that criteria may well change. The Chancellor's 'Whatever it takes ...' commitment of last week to keep the economy moving has seen 2 amendments from the original 'headlines' [as distinct from the fine print].

Firstly, the understood Aviation Industry support has been turned aside and financial support will be considered on a case by case basis. Secondly, the talk of VAT payment deferrals has been 'fine tuned' and HMRC will collect the VAT Direct Debits on Thursday from all the micro and small brewers who currently have no income. Both the aviation and the brewers' Trade Bodies are somewhat less than impressed with these developments.

With the initial impact of coronavirus reaching today's Purchasing Index Figures and showing a 1.5% to 2% GDP reduction for the 1/4, and the next 1/4 being the first full period for these figures, the size of the consequent recession is forecast to sail past last week's 'perhaps as high as 10% of GDP' consensus with barely a backwards glance. So, the lack of affordability of commitments made only last week may well change or dilute the original intentions [my entry for 'Understatement of the Month' Award ...].

No, the letter originates from my GP surgery. I suppose it depends on how many vulnerable people they have on their books as to how quickly they can contact you

You will be part of the 1.5million in the ‘shielded’ group who will not make it thru the virus should you contract it due to reduced/compromised immune function. The directive is to help & protect both you & the NHS.
