Has any one any experience of using a reputable company to transport a caravan?

We were due to collect our caravan from a dealership in the north of England, however the dreaded CORVID19 has scuppered our plans. We are looking for recommendations re a reputable company who we can engage to transport/tow our caravan to its pitch in the South of England.

Cheers

Can the dealer in the north arrange it for you ?  He will probably know how to get it done.

But if you are in.house bound  isolation might it be best simply to leave the van with him till life gets back to normal and you can use it again?

As  my above post , things could be going the same way here ,soon, we are already being requested to only take essential journeys, ask the dealer if they can store it for now,

I would go for the dealership man personally.  I bought a Shepherds hut at the end of December and it took over two months to find a transporter.  Not quite the same as yours but it was a total nightmare!

Perhaps you need to talk the the dealer about the "man they know"! If they have used him for similar deliveries in the past he might be the person for the job. Given that many of the UK caravans are made near Hull there will be companies in that area that transport both caravans and statics all over the country so it might be worth checking those companies. If its a UK made caravan why not give the manufacturer a ring as they may be able to suggest someone.

Personally, unless you have already paid for it, I would leave it with the dealer until you can collect it in person. At least then you can carry out the normal hand over checks and see if everything is working. It is doubtful they will have any problem storing it as new stock is likely to be delayed. If you have only paid a deposit you will not be the owner, so it would be down to them to insure.

The insurance is a very valid point - I couldn't get the Shepherds Hut insured until it was delivered and in situ.  (I didn't actually try the club perhaps I should have done!)  It became such a nightmare as each company went to collect it and failed to move it!

Leave it at the dealers if at all possible. You need to do a handover with them before it's moved otherwise if there's any problems with it they'll probably say it was perfect when it left them.

First of all, I'm no expert in this, but have you already paid in full for the caravan?

If so, in relation to leaving the caravan with the dealer until a later date, my worry would be: what would happen if, God forbid, the dealer went bust?  Would the caravan then be seized as an asset of the company?

Having someone transport it now is also a bit of a risk, as you're not there to check it over prior to taking delivery, so if there was a problem, it would be your word against theirs.

The only suggestion I could make would be to contact one of the caravan inspection firms, the ones who inspect caravans prior to buying, and get them to check it over with a fine toothcomb.

Not a nice situation to be in, don't envy you, good luck with it, hope it all goes well.
