    Agree

As I said in my post, "That's the plan but subject to changes, as all the best plans are"

    Fingers crossed

Nor would I take a 4am ferry,  value my sleep too muchsurprised.  As I said, why not just arrive in Dover the evening before and get a slightly more civilized crossing.  However, if you take a 4am you should save on the Dartford crossing feelaughing.

'Southern softie!'  tongue-out. Driving from Scotland to the Channel ports, especially in pre-caravan days, meant a fair slog and a routine geared around missing M6 jams around Manchester, Stafford etc and then timing the run around the M25 to precede the rush rush hour [misnomer if ever there was one ...], arriving at Newhaven in time for a Fish Supper at Horace's Fish Bar and then the late evening Ferry, so an 0400 Dover crossing felt routine! We'd quite forgotten the much greater frequency of crossings from Dover; dangers of an autopilot response ...

Kicked the options around again yesterday and have booked 3 stops at Grange over Sands; Wythall; and Black Horse Dover. This should enable us to take a ferry around 1100, and then a short'ish drive to St Quentin and a rejigged set of overnight stops [we had a 'spare' night in the schedule] to keep the average daily drives to around 150 miles.

Also planning to put the bikes on the Car Roof since Grubhof seems to have some decent routes [after my health problems in Spain, the bikes spent more time sunbathing than being ridden ...]. Should vary the routine and exercise options.

We'll probably tinker with the plans again; all part of the fun and indecision. Q. 'Do you have trouble making decisions?'  A. 'Well, yes and no ...'
