Moved back over to a caravan

Well we have decided that after almost 3 years of motor homing we are going back to a caravan.

We have had a few niggles since new with our motorhome and the latest was a couple of areas with high water ingress readings. All faults have been repaired under warranty and our dealer has been great.
So with all of the above and the warranty runs out in May we feel it’s time to a change.

Went to the Glasgow caravan/motorhome show and started looking at caravans. After a couple of weeks looking around we decided to go for the 2020 swift challenger 560 lux. Nice island bed with central toilet/shower and adle heating which we have never had in mh or caravan.

Time will tell if we have made the right move.

cheers
Dougie

Whichever way you go is likely to be an expensive move!!! Surely though problems with water ingress, which could easily happen with any caravan, as well as a motorhome,  can't really be the reason for the move back?

We did the opposite, caravan to motorhome, partly due to water ingress. Three out of our the four caravans that we owned had damp. The first eventually got written off, the last went back to the factory twice then suffered further damp to the tune of £5000 plus after we sold it.

Obviously, motorhomes can suffer from water ingress but it is far less common than caravans which seem something of a lottery.

Ultimately though the decision has surely to be based on lifestyle preferences? Where you go, where you stay, for how long, mobility etc. Motorhome touring is quite different to caravan.

Good luck with your choices, DougA, But, according to certain posters on this site, if you want to avoid the Water Ingress Problems, you should head Over There. It is well known that its always warm & sunny and Never, Ever Rains  Over There !! winkcoolinnocent

We made the same move 2 and a half years ago and have not regretted it. We did caravan for many years then had a MH for 4 years and enjoyed it but it was big and we ended up towing a car around most of the time so decided we may as well tow a caravan again. A big part of our decision was finance based we were looking to change our MH but it was going to cost a fortune. We ended up trading our 13 year old MH in for a brand new Caravan and it only cost us £1000 to do the switch. We bought at the NEC in Birmingham and got a great show deal with lots of extras thrown in.

We did the same some years ago, not because of problems it was an Autocruise ,and got a really good deal, as we got a cheque for £9250 and the caravan, but it was not a good c/van(Eldiss) last two Bailey have been fine,  and get to a lot more places, with the tow vehicle than if we still had a motor caravan

Thanks everyone. To be honest I was just fed up with our motorhome. Since new I’ve traveled several times to and from our dealers (200 mile round trip) to have van inspected for faults then have the same trip again once the warranty has been approved As the warranty is due to end in May I have no faith in our motorhome and it will probably start to cost us to fix any repairs.

i know the water ingress has a 10 year warranty but the van was only 2 years old when the first damp area was found. This was repaired and now another area has damp. It’s one thing getting fixed under warranty but it’s another issue when you have to travel to and  from the dealers and when in a motorhome you need alternative transport to drop off and collect from the dealers.

Prior to our motorhome we had 2 swift caravans with absolutely no issues at all.......maybe just lucky.

The other half fell in love with the swift caravan at the Glasgow show so that also played a big part on the move.
