New Passport

My passport expired at the end of November and I wasn't in a rush to replace it - but then it looked as though I might have to visit my son in hospital in the US.

Brilliant service - the digital version was an absolute doddle - got my pic done locally and was provided with a digital code.  Really easy application on line Friday afternoon - new passport arrived at 9 am today! (Tuesday).

I also helped my daughter fill in the paper version which I found far more difficult - partly because it is printed in a non-descript brown colour and even with a good reading lamp it wasn't easy!  It will be interesting to see how quick hers will be!

It is red - but no EU to be seen.  I think it is smaller too.

I used both methods last year to renew our out of date passports. The online applications were very easy. We took the photo images using the caravan as background.

Unfortunately when we returned our original passports as part of the process my envelope had been opened in transit and the passport was missing. That meant that I had to make a new application including getting an ex-colleague to vouch for my identity on the form and sign the photo. I also got him to fill in most of it as it is indeed difficult to see due to the colours. Since I lost sight in one eye 10 years ago I do have difficulty with colour definition

Could you not ask for a large print version like you seem to be able to with everything else?

We did ours online last year but the photo I submitted was rejected twice.  They didn't like my plain off white wallpaper; said it had a 'textured finish'.  A bit nitpicky I thought.  Eventually decided to get my local camera shop to do it.

My eyesight - with specs - doesn't normally give me any trouble but I definitely struggled with the stupid colour.  I also dislike the trendy grey that people use these days.  I live near the Racecourse at Market Rasen and their trendy grey signs are plain daft in my opinion!

There probably is a large print available but I wasn't offered it at the Post Office.  Daughter has been told her picture isn't good enough which is bad luck as she currently has Panda Eyes due to eczema outbreak (stress) So she will need to use her skill with make up!

Possibly but time was also a factor. I sent my passport off as requested about a week before a 15 night stay on site over Christmas. I received a phone call telling me of the problem a few days before our holiday. I received my mail (post held) 2 days after our return. I had a week in which to complete or else pay for the second application. But more to the point my friend who was signing for me was going on holiday a few days after I received the forms and he was able to complete them for me.

WE looked at a few background options and the side of the caravan fitted the bill nicely. We had to use the shady side out of any sun to avoid reflection.

The Post Office have an excellent service more expensive but they take the picture check and guarantee the application, took just a few days for a new passport last year.
