Ferry booking page

Is it me or is the booking page for ferries still not working properly?

I thought I would check it out to see if changes had been made, so did a trial booking for a ferry date and time that I know is available but it returned a 'no crossing available'

The information on OH's and my profile is correct for the vehicles we have, yet when I tried to select them on the booking form they had caravans that we owned 12 and 15 years ago, but not the one we own now and you can't input the correct one.

I've tried a few times with this new page but it gets worse every time, if it doesn't get sorted very soon then I will take my bookings elsewhere, really cannot be doing with the hassle. It was fine the way it was why do they insist on meddling with things when they worked fine yell

We are changing our van soon, initially I had a problem due to not matching the van name to its dimensions and also got "no crossing available" but was able to change the van in "My Profile" and "My Outfits" and the bookings went through.  If you are having difficulties try making a booking over the phone I find they are very good and they can correct your outfits at the same time.

    Agree, Tigi.

We wanted to book a different return crossing to the outward one, both with Brittany Ferries.

The website wasn’t having it at all, but a phone call to a very helpful advisor had us booked up in minutes.

Thanks but the details are correct in my profile and my outfits, we have made 3 crossings since we have had this outfit so cannot understand where they have dug up the old outfits from.

I don't mind phoning the club to do the booking, once I have 'played' around and found which one I want but the new booking page is totally useless.

Why should you have to make a call then go through all the options that 'they' have come up with, which might not suit you.

I like to be flexible so play around with days and different routes and choose which would suit us best. By phoning you don't get the same feel for what is on offer.

Its time the club sorted out the horrible mess they have made to the booking page.

As an aside, where and when are you going TG?

Hi TG, hate to say it but have just done a trial booking and its the best its been since the changes!

One thing to try is to clear cookies as your description is what I sometimes get and after trying that it worked OKish.

I also noticed that the option to compare other crossings is not checked so I get prices for alternative crossings on the route I have chosen rather than routes of no interest to me.

If you cant get any joy I would phone, I always make the booking over the phone, and have your options to hand so they can help you.

Good luck and have a great trip.

PS-Just noticed in the alternative crossings, I am going Plymouth-Roscoff on a Thursday night cabin included, that if I was to cross on the next mornings crossing it would cost me £150 more!!

    Hi TG

Late last year there was quite a long thread running about it, when there were all sorts of problems with it.  Earlier this year I did try a few times, and it did appear to be better than it had been.  But I still don't think it is as user-friendly to use, nor does it give the alternatives that the old system did.  I did find that very useful.

I'm like you, I like to play around with dates/times and have a look what the different options cost myself, not have to sit on the phone for ages while someone else does it.  Sort of defeats the object of having an on-line booking system.

Thanks A&J and InaD, went back on very late last night and actually managed to get it to work much better, like you said A&J, got a few options up on the route I was checking, so flushed with success I played with other routes and hey that worked as well smile

Still don't find it an easy process, have to agree with you Ina that phoning does defeat the object of an online booking system .

I remember the original thread but thought it best not to try looking for it as I was stressed enough already laughinglaughing

I already have a booking for our next trip (did it direct with BF ages ago) but thought I should try playing with it, so that when I'm ready to do the autumn trip, I know my way around it without getting stressed out.

A&J, normally a night crossing is the dearest with that route and a Thursday night is on the Pont Aven so again usually dearer, maybe a Friday crossing is now going to be the more expensive one undecided I know that is the case on the P&O Hull crossing.

Freddy, we are going mid April Portsmouth to Bilbao for 9 weeks in Spain/France cool

Nice 👍 You’ll be overlapping (a bit) with WN. I can’t wait to get away myself (mid May), sick of this weather now frown

Hi TG, was just attempting to show that its always worth checking the options as, for a long time, it was always the night crossings that cost more and you also had to pay for a cabin.

Our fare this year, for the ferry, is less than we paid in 1991!

Its also a win for us as the morning crossings are a non starter.

The evening crossing on the Pont is very attractive as well as its not too late to have a meal on board as it sails are a reasonable time and that's a pretty good way to kick off the holiday.

A&J, yes we've done the evening crossing on the Pont a few times, we like the timings of it, coming from so far away it gives us plenty of time to get there but as you say not that late that you miss a meal on board and you get a decent nights sleep.

This time we are going Portsmouth to Bilbao return Caen in mid April we got a better deal going through BF using a code from a friend.

I have checked out Hull to Zeebrugge for similar dates and it was a great price if taking 4 vouchers, so if its still good in September that  may well be  the route we take then.

I always like to take time to browse all the possibilities, we can take just about any crossing apart from Harwich as its so out of our way and doesn't get us down as far as we like to go.

I am just about to renew my membership of Brittany Ferries Club Voyage scheme. It will cost me £70 to renew - but seven friends, forum friends and family have used my code over the year so I have £70 credit for that. Zero balance.

So I simply go forward now with 30% discount on future fares booked directly with that ferry company - amendments free of charge up to four hours before departure, free breakfasts after overnight crossings and free cabins on my daytime returns.  And no pesky vouchers !

Just spent some time trying to book a ferry to France. The page does not seem to work, instructed to select Crossings" but there is no tab with that title to select. I don't want to telephone as suggested as I am abroad and the cost is expensive. Disappointed that the option to book online is offered but simply does not work. As another poster wrote why mess about updating things that used to work fine?

The club site is a complete disaster. Several weeks ago I tried to make a booking for a crossing to Holland from Harwich. The price was extortionate and i went to Cheap Ferries to book. It turned out that when I queried the cost over the phone and asked if it was a std ticket or the flexi option (wasnt sure) which was always issued previously, also when asked about price match she said there price match was only comparable to the Stena site. What a load of tosh I never got a good answer from the agent A few days after I received tel call from a Club adviser to say the booking gave the impression that that was the best price because it gave you a outside cabin instead of the inside option. I had already found this out as I had to update to a lower grade of inside cabin. Why not give you best price the inside cabin is perfectly adequate The price was still about £40 more than the Cheap Ferries and he said that the operator was wrong about comparison fares and it was against all valid offers he said can we can book you now and I said to late I have already gone elsewhere. This year having been with the club for about ten years I will be taking a long hard look as to whether it is worth the hassle

Well I just did a comparison between C&MC, C&CC & Cheap Ferries for Harwich - Hook of Holland Captains cabin out nothing back.

    C&MC £290

    C&CC £286

    Cheap Ferries £362

So both clubs cheaper by a mile for the same crossing and cheap ferries were giving me a generous 15% off.undecided
