What some might not know is that in years gone by Alan Rogers Guides where a rare breed of campsite books for visiting Europe. OK the Club had their own Overseas Guides but they lacked the detail and they depended on Club members submitting reports. In the old days I understand that Alan Rogers personally used to visit sites he reported on. Don't forget this was long before the internet so trying to find information of overseas sites was much more difficult. We used to use them a lot and they were invaluable especially when we did a three month trip in 1992 across many European countries.

I agree David. They used to be more bespoke and knowing that they were hand picked and visited by AR made a bit of a difference. A bit like Sawyers travel guides.

Still, we found that we still didn't use them a great deal relying on guide books from the country we were visiting, mostly France in the formative years, and the clubs own guides.

Years ago, when Alan Rogers was alive and still running the guides himself, they were my 'first port of call' for choosing sites on the continent and in the UK for non-club sites.  IMHO they are still good, but I also use other sources in addition, these days.  Generally speaking, I think sites are a much better quality now than they used to be.  I've always rated the Alan Roger's guides though...
