Lyon - sites near

On our way to the south of France this year we thought we would stop to have a look at Lyon and Vienne.   Once parked we prefer to use local transport.    There are three sites in the CC book but the closest to Lyon are Camping Lyon (in the book Indigo) and Camping Barolles.   Has anyone any experience of these sites as very mixed reviews for Camping Barolles.    Thanks for any help.

Yes, Camping Lyon, but a good few years ago. It was rather shabby then but looks better in recent photos now that the Indigo / Huttopia company has spent money there - it's billed as CityKamp now like their sites in Paris and Strasbourg.

I remember a young woman in the site office who spoke seven languages and wondered whether Club wardens in London could do that, a bus from the gate to modern, driverless metro trains, an interesting day in the city, including tne well recommended museum display of textiles, fashion and decorative arts - but that it was a bad mistake to order the local speciality of andouillettes  for lunch at a bistro in the old town.

Other than that last give it a go.

Indigo is perfect for visiting Lyon. The facilities are excellent although the pitches a bit small and slightly scruffy but does this matter for one or two nights if you are out most of the time? The big advantage is firstly that the site is very accessible from the main road and secondly that the buses are close to the site. You can buy a day pass for all transport at the site. This used to be 4 - 5 Euros, perhaps a bit more now, but it covers bus, train, trams, funicular. An Auchan supermarket is walking distance from the site and reception will give you all the information you need for visiting the city.

Thanks for your information eurotraveller from Cornwall and hitchglitch.    Sounds ideal for what we want and convenient too, especially as we want to get/bus train to Vienne whilst we are there and if we have time.

Will stay away from the andouillettes - not a favourite.
