Santander stop over, end of February

Hi,

We should arrive in Santander 17:30, Saturday 29th February, and will need an overnight stop over site within an hour or so's drive of Santander (heading east ideally). We have our caravan, and dog with us, so a campsite ideally, but a hotel with a car park suitable for parking the car and van safely overnight is an option.

We have been googling sites, but they are either closed, not dog friendly, or have bad reviews, so any recommendations please ?

I'm assuming that caravans are not allowed to use Aires in Spain, similar to France ?

Thanks !!

Camping Zarautz around 100 miles from Santander could be an option

you could try camping Oyambre, it is in the wrong direction, but only a 45 minute drive from the port, we have stopped there twice x 4 days going and return, good site, excellent facilities block, indoor/outdoor pools, 10 minute walk from beach, dog friendly, only down side is that some of the pitches can be very wet if weather not good, it is a club recommended site with bar/restaurant, open all year, we booked in advance and asked for hard standing.

i should have said that if you are considering camping Oyambre, be careful there are 2 sites with similar names in very close proximity to each other, the non club recommended site is not great undecided

not too familiar with that area but we (and many others) have used the Elephant Sanctuary at Cabarceno, 25km on the road but virtally due south of the port....sorry not east but easy main road access east from there.

usually MHs but im sure i recall a caravan or two there on one of our visits..huge carpark but check out entrance on googlemaps to make sure youre comfortable.

Thank you for all the replies/suggestions. I read a couple of posts regarding Cabarceno, so I'll email to enquire. I'll also check out Oyambre.

We don't want to have to travel too far from Santander in case the ferry is late.

Oyambre will stay open for you if you tell them you are on the ferry and there is a possibility you may be late.
