Just a reminder for anyone making booking arrangements for May 2020 that the early bank holiday will fall on Friday 8th.May and not on Monday 4th. This may affect some pricing of club sites.

Indeed. I booked the Malvern Hills site, for 7th - 10th May, before the new bank holiday was announced. I now have to pay the extra.

yes, I had booked for the original dates and changed it as soon as it was announced, I got the 'old' prices and thought goody perhaps I'l get away with it. But then a lovely nice email arrived from the club giving me my new prices.

75 years since VE day! This is definitely worth celebrating and thoughts must go to everyone who played a part in the events leading to that special day.  So, why hasn't got it's own day?  Why has it been doubled up with 'the beginning of Summer' / 'labour day' or whatever the 1st Monday in May was created for?  Isn't this dumbing it down somewhat?

It's always been a national holiday in France and they still throw in one on the 1st.May as well.

Not forgetting another one at the end of May laughing

Hopefully we will be in Spain, dodging all their PH's.

To me, there doesn't appear to be the same obsession with bumping up the prices at the slightest opportunity "over there" although I haven't made a detailed study of the issue.

I realise you  are a CAMC supporter but if you ordered a new caravan in November at "X" pounds to be delivered the following May would you expect to pay more due to a price rise in January?

Lest anyone should think this is uniquely a club thing, it's not! We take part in a charity event in Matlock which is held on the first Sunday in May, usually the Bank Holiday weekend. Next year, of course, it won't be BH. Having looked for, and booked a cottage in the area, the price rises for the BH weekend are eyewatering compared to anything the club does! surprised

like you not done a detailed study, but i think you will find a lot do, was on a site during the Easter period this year, for 4 days our cheap €14 per day almost doubled.

In Italy if there is a feast day/public holiday near a weekend like a Thursday or Friday then it gets attached to the that weekend as people will take a mini holiday fanno i ponte  and prices do go up for accommodation during that time. The most notable one is the feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th where after people start to get ready for Christmas and if conditions are right it's a popular skiing weekend 'up north'.

This year we were there for 3 of the 4 BH's never paid anymore for them than the nirmal Acsi price, though one year in Belgium we did come across a few sites that put the prices up for them.  We found one that didnt put acsi prices up, though those not on acsi did have a price rise.

Though it won't affect us, I just checked out a well known, much recommended private site for the 5 nights before this BH which came out at £127.50, then for the 5 nights including this BH which was a whopping £172! That'sgetting on for a tenner a night more. The nearby club site prices rise is a more modest £4.40 a night. wink

and many non club sites have punitive other conditions, like a min of two nights, sometime three+ on BH, and of course non refundable deposits anytime are the norm.

As you say the club treats hits customers far better on the whole at BH and other times really.

...and other non club sites have far better amenities/facilities and have offers like 3 nights for 2, or 7 for 6.

i don't regard min of 2 nights punitive...it is what it is and, as with any other site (club included) one just decides if it suits or not.

some just like to have a change from a 'club only' diet.

No I disagree, club sites set the standard really by which others are judged, why else do reviews of non club sites state up to caravan club standards? Why do clubs sites prove year on year to be so popular often full while non club sites nearly have plenty of space?

Each to their own of course.

well you would disagree, as your 'extensive experience" is virtually limited to one 'brand'.

each to their own, of coursewink

well, if you read my post again I was quoting from other sources, that is reviews about non club sites by non club reviewers.

And in all other forums I visit I never see anyone complaining about not a getting a pitch at these superior sites you allude to, yet complaints about full club sites are abound on CT.

This is now office topic so I'll let people decide what that means for themselves.

Your right about space on other than cc sites the commercial site we were on  earlier this month had plenty of vacant pitches and even with their off peak offer of £17 per night ,at peak a pitch is £90 per night mid week and min of two nights at weekends, but that does include a card for reduced rates in the other facilities

As I'm not interested in onsite clubs, bars, swimming pools, children's clubs etc., I will stick with CL's and Club Sites and save my pennies for more expensive trips elsewhere
