To be fair, the municipal campsite Camping Eure et Seine at Pont de l'Arche is very convenient and in a great location for overnight stops, and as such is not really set up for people arriving at 1.00 pm, hence the 4.00 pm opening time (other times of the season opening hours are longer).  The sanitaires, whilst basic, have always been very clean when we've been there, but friends who were there at the same time as a party of travellers (or market traders as they were described) did complain about the state the toilets were left in (not the general state of cleanliness).

However, from 10 reviews on Trip Advisor 3 say 'Excellent', 5 say 'Good' and 2 say 'Average'.  None say 'Poor' or 'Terrible'.  No one complained about the sanitaires except to confirm that they are a little basic, but always described as clean.

I wouldn't want Deleted User User's comments putting people off trying it and making up their own minds, because it is so convenient and on a popular 'non-toll' route.

There is another site with a similar name - Bords de la Eure in Chartres - on our last visit the sanitaires there were really in a state, and that was due to lack of maintenance, and general cleanliness, not the state they were left in by customers.

Convenient to me means open for arrivals, a 4pm opening is not convenient. Location is fine for a stop overnight, did not look at sanfacs because I was totally put off by the attitude of the person in the offfice who wouldn't even open the window to speak with us. It's not a site that I would consider returning to. There are much nicer friendlier sites on that route.

As to the site at Chartes its at least 5 years since we were last there, the sanfacs were old but at that time they were clean. Again what put us of was the attitude of the couple who ran the site, unfriendly doesn't come anywhere near their attitude. I often wonder why these type of folk run sites if they don't like folk.

Tammy, Did I ever tell you of my much more friendly welcome at the municipal site at Nort sur Erdre?

When the  warden eventually appeared he had clearly been drinking, admitted he had a hangover, and said he was just back from a three day music festival. Then he brightened up and said "Come up look what I found while I was there".

In a back room in an armchair was a blonde lady - of indeterminate age and unknown origin - she smiled and shook her head at every language I tried. But she had a lovely smile.   "Quite a find", I said to the warden, "what's she called?" .He grinned and said "Is called assistant warden".

We went back tne next year but the site had been privatised and both of tnem were gone.

Hi TG, we once had the intention of staying there overnight, but from the bridge could see that the site had quite a few travellers on it, which put us off, so we carried on.  Having looked at a few reviews (Campercontact) quite a few mention the 4pm opening time and the state of the toiletblock.  One reviewer reckons the owner does everything not to get any customers!  Haven't been that way for a few years now, as we travel down the other side of the river from Rouen.

Have you tried the small site at St Remy-sur-Avre?  Just off the N12, but away from it, sanitaires are dated, but they are scrupulously clean, and the water is nice and hot.

Hi Ina, no not stayed at that site before.

We've stayed at  Le Bec Hellouin, lovely site in an apple orchard, nice indoor pool, good modern sanfacs.  We've also gone the other side and stayed at Les Anderlays,  in fact that's were we went to after we left Pont de L'arche. Again lovely site on the river seine, easy walk into the small town.

now that really was a shame you missed that. weve been there several times and the first time we said we would stay a week...

at the end of the week we checked with 'madame' if there was space and we stayed the next week....

the walking and cycling, from St Raphael/Frejus one way to Le Lavandou the other kept us busy for nine weeks!

ok, plenty of strolling to Cavalaire and the market at La Croix, to the Vinyard (very tipsy on a picnic afternoon with jazz band) to Saint-Tropez for the Rolex boat race.

PS a couple of famous CTers on the terracewink

Hi TG.  No, not stayed at Le Bec Hellouin, will note that one for future reference.

Have stayed at Les Andelys a few times.  Most recently on the way back up north at the end of June this year, when we had those high temps in the mid-high 30s.  Wanted somewhere with a pool, it was lovely smile
