Whilst Halloween is a wonderful time to enjoy with your kids and grandkids, sadly it also sees a spike in road accidents as excited kids focus on treats and not traffic. It’s important to stay safe and a few simple actions can prevent Halloween turning into a real nightmare! Here are our top safety tips this Halloween:
Top 3 Trick or Treat Tips to stay safe this Halloween
1. Don’t be invisible
Make sure everyone you’re going Trick or Treating with can be easily seen. Add glow sticks to your costumes and take a torch with you.
2. Ensure you’re crossing at safe crossing points
Use the correct crossings and don’t cross the road between parked cars as motorists might not be able to see you. Remind your kids to look left and right every time you cross even though you may be in a big group.
3. Take a grown up.
Make sure your little ones have an adult with them and you go through the route together before they leave. If it’s a large group and you’re taking the kids – bring back up!
Top 3 Halloween Tips for Drivers
1. Be extra vigilant when you’re driving
There are a lot of excited children out dressed in dark spooky outfits fuelled by sweets and chocolate. So when you’re driving be extra vigilant as these kids will be more interested in getting treats rather than traffic!
2. Park in a well-lit area to deter thieves
Sadly there are people out there who will take advantage of this time of year with lots of people being out on the streets. Park somewhere well-lit to deter thieves and vandals.
3. Check your outfit is secured
If alarmed make sure they are on. Car alarms are very loud and will alarm any Halloween hooligan. Check doors and windows are locked and wheel clamps secured. Remove any valuables from your vehicles and be vigilant.

Shopping today in asda , got hit by a broom , kids running round with masks on ,cant see where they are going . they cry when they run into youre trolley . !! Agree another American import ,like grandparents day !!

I am sure many people of my age are not keen on Halloween but the kids seem to like it. We are at Sandringham and the wardens have clearly made an effort for the kids which, as much as I don't like it, I am sure it is appreciated by the kids. So as long as it doesn't bother me I am happy that others might enjoy it.

It used to be the kids I taught coming to the door - it still is, but now they're bringing their own kids with them. Makes me feel old!
Top tip - when the kids say "trick or treat" answer with "ooh, lovely, I'll have a treat please". Always throws them!

When working in the Middle East we lived in a compound that consisted mainly of Americans and trick and treat was a family oriented social occasion and very nice it was to. Here unfortunately we get bunches of teenagers who seem to focus on the trick part. For us it’s gates locked and no lights showing. No doubt thousands of pounds in fireworks will be set off during tonight

I enjoyed it last year when our youngest grandson had been staying with us for many months and we "did" Halloween for him and the neighbouring families who go out in little groups. I don't usually see Halloween but we went out for fish and chips tonight and saw all the groups with parents and the decorated houses. I'm not keen on it but we did export it to North America (Canada is awash with pumpkins too.

Not hard a single firework so far this year but this made me laugh from a government website: You can be fined up to £5,000 and imprisoned for up to 6 months for selling or using fireworks illegally. You could also get an on-the-spot fine of £90.
I think I would hope for an on the spot fine!
