A site to consider ??

My wife and I have just spent 3 weeks at this camp site visiting Dutch friends. The site has been developed over the last 5 years when the owners decided to stop farming. It has 60ish pitches with some seasonals, but no statics. The site is really well laid out, level (it is Holland after all) and spacious, with a brand new toilet block with all the usual facilities. We arrived on the last Saturday of August, just before the schools went back and despite the site being full the facilities coped really well and were always clean. There is a new reception block under construction. Whilst we were there we bought very nice rolls at 9o/c every day and eggs were also for sale. The site itself has numerous bits of children's play equipment. Next door is a more extensive play facility with a zip wire etc. There is also an off-site restaurant next door, but really it is all part of the overall facility. On site there is also a small fishing lake. One minor irritation was that cars had to be parked away from the caravans, but we soon got used to this and it goes towards the vision of spaciousness.

We had a pitch right next to the wifi repeater mast and consequently had really excellent reception, but I was told the whole site is well covered. We paid extra to have 10amps and all pitches have fresh water and waste. Our site costs averaged out at 18 euros per night inclusive which we thought was really good value.

The local area is flat and good for cycling (& walking) with the site providing many suggested routes. Oisterwijk itself is small pleasant town with all the usual shops in or around the periphery - market day is Thursday afternoon with the high street barred off from the morning onwards. There is even a restaurant on the outskirts owned and run by one of the judges of the Dutch version of Great Bake Off - worth a visit.

For personal health reasons we didn't travel around too much but our Dutch friends took us to De Wit at Schijndel which is said to be one of the largest camping, caravanning and outdoor superstores in Holland. But be warned it could be an expensive visit; you will see things you didn't know you needed.

On the site limited English is spoken but enough to get by. The web site is in Dutch; www.gerrithoeve.nl which contains some pictures. but there are many more on the web.

All in all we had a very good and relaxing holiday and we would certainly go back.
