Has the occupancy stayed level?and costs increased, when the upsurge in motor caravans ,is as we have noticed filling up sites with close by transport and villages/towns,which is not seen, where sites are more remote, And as posted Nunnykirk "is in the middle of nowhere"

Interestingly, while we were there last year, there were lots of small camper vans and MHs on site, easily as many as caravans. Including a few hired ones. It’s a good proper touring site, a mid way stop from Hadrian’s Wall country and the big castles around Alnwick, Bamburgh, Berwick area. Large MHs would struggle in the wet, it can get a touch damp at times. It does require a vehicle that you can use rather than plonk down unmoved unless you just want to chill out on site. Although I’m reliably informed Rothbury is civilised enough to have the odd taxi and bus.....😁

It's the small camper vans that are todays versatile touring vehicle and seem to be the vehicle of choice , for getting out and about,from sites that are not "connected"to transport or shortish walking to "civilization " there has just been a review of clumber park which seems to hi light it

Reading the reviews I expect most motorhomers would be put off by the risk of flooding which seems a regular occurrence!!! I may well have stayed at this site 29 years ago. Is it near Hexham? I don't really recall much about it but I can't see me going back now. Whilst many of you will see it as a little gem others will think the opposite.

I'd to search for what the question was ....there's no way on Earth an emergency service vehicle would get between most pitches on a CC site .... the grass finger is a couple of feet wide at very best, it's not unheard of for the gravel of one pitch to meet the gravel of the pitch next to it.

Not too far away DK. It’s relatively high up on Moors, with a small stream running through it, so it can be very damp. Having said that, we had no issues after a wet spell last year. Very flexible pitching, it’s seldom bursting at the seams, so you don’t have to park in exactly the same spot as anyone else using a given pitch, so if there is a worn patch, you can avoid it. No straight row pitching, more random.

3m between ancillary equipment, ie cars/awnings. How wide is a fire engine? If it was even 3m, it would be unlawful to use on our roads.

Wide? 2.9 meters unless running under STGO. So should fit in a 3m gap.

There are indeed! On our current three week tour we have, so far been on five sites. All but one Club sites with, I reckon between 90 and 100% hardstandings and they have all been full and not just at weekends. Their popularity could well be down to their location but equally it could be down to the fact that there is a fair chance of getting a hardstanding pitch? We have actually cancelled our final CMC site because it has all grass pitches and booked a C&CC site where we were able to book a hardstanding.

Sounds a good one for a last minute get away, if it's a period of dryish weather. Not sure I'd fancy it in the wet, I am a little wary of getting the MH bogged down. Four days between replenishing supplies is fine, so no need for nearbye shops. Is the walking good from the site?

david, i dont know which part of the country you are touring in, but here in the south, the weather has been predominantly dry for weeks and weeks, other than the few odd days...
weve been using grass pitches exclusively this summer and would have no hesitation whatsoever on using a grass Cl, ths, or club site this week.

Not sure how heavy your MH is, but there were some medium sized ones on site last time we were there, 6.5-7 metres. No one had any issues getting off and on. Wardens will let you park close to site road if you are worried anyway, in line with a peg, but not up to it. It’s a spacious site. We used a couple of cheap under drive wheel mats to spread load as well, but didn’t use our waffles. It’s usually wet early season coming out of Winter, but unless it’s a very wet Summer, it’s fine.
Not sure what kind of walking you want, but this is a National Park, and has some stunning walks. Simonside is close, but there are all sorts of footpaths and bridleways that link up. We have walked Simonside, Cragside Estate, Wallington Estate, as examples. Just parking up would be a waste, there is just so much to see and do around the Site. Lots of moorland parking spots, picnic pull ins. The area is littered with historical remains, follies, Battlefields not far away. Small towns and villages are free to park up. You’re very welcome. Proximity to Cragside and Wallington alone make it a good stay. Easy parking at both with even the largest of MHs.😁

My first choice of pitch is always a hardstanding. Much prefer them as they are always clean regardless of the weather. We have been on one CL this year on grass and even there we had the front wheels on the car park! I expect our touring is different to many in that we go away in the van to visit places. We don't go away any longer just to relax and chill out as we can do that at home. Obviously we do relax on site but that is not the main purpose. I suspect somewhere like Nunnykirk would not be on our list anyway.
BTW we have been in Scotland and are now heading south.

I notice that the web page for Nunnykirk on the Club's site refers to a charge for using the Late Night Arrivals area. I have not seen that anywhere before. Can anyone throw any light on this, or am I missing something obvious? To me a charge for the LNA would mean paying twice over.

There has always been a charge for LNA if folk arrived if booked later than 8pm used to be pitch fee and 1 adult fee but have changed recently. Nunnykirk is a lovely peaceful site and as other folk have said all grass no wifi and poor mobile phone or none existent signal.

The only time we used a LNA we were charged the per capita fee for each of us but not the pitch fee. 🤷🏻♂️
