just rang one of my favourite cl sites because the cmc mag said it was closed, in fact it has not, just left the club... this is the third  time in my experience this has occurred, closed and left are two different things club should be more accurate in its posting.

But they are closed ,did they say they are now a private site, with a licence from the L.A. to continue, rather than an exemption certificate from the clubundecided

We find it a relatively common experience to find CLs have become something else, so closed is indeed rather inaccurate, unless this is what owners have told Club “ we are closing to become something else” and then setting up as a private site.

It was much preferable when Club actually had a sort of code regarding CLs leaving network, eg, closed, retired, license not renewed, an other. I suppose this contravenes some sort of guidance nowadays, but we find it does pay to dig deeper if a CL you really like leaves the network. It’s one of reasons why I used to keep my little black book with contact details, but you can use other websites such as UKcampsite, pitchup or TripAdvisor. Old handbooks are good as well if you come across one.

    🙂

Closed is different to left, and this site in particular is very much open, it would be much better to say this site is  no longer part of the network.

I suspect this is the same site I have rung this morning with the same query! Glad to find it hasn't closed.

For those CL's that are no longer CL's but something other than closed why doesn't the Club just say This CL has left the Network?

Did they advise the club they were remaining open as a site but with an L.A. licence?

Are some of them switching to "the other lot" due to dissatisfaction with the level of support?

There could well be no need for them to require an L.A. Licence if they have joined one of the other organisations that carry exemption certificates.....as you well know, JVB.

    What is equally confusing is;

    1) to find that an apparently 'new' site (In this months magazine - Lincolnshire) appears to have been running for a good number of years based on the reviews it has..

    2) to discover that a CL 'Atlantic View' in Pembrokeshire is listed on the website as "Please note that this CL is not taking bookings for 2018 and will only reopen in 2019 as the CL owners are currently upgrading the site."

Well, it hasn't opened in 2019, and the season is coming to an end..

    3) An update about 'Newnham Manor' in Wallingford, that doesn't seem to be listed on the website  - so presumably it is now off the network? In fact it's a commercial site of aboput 30 pitches - I guess it used to have a CL running alongside?

Mistakes also happen somewhere at HQ.  A CL I'm aware of being published in the magazine ( a few years ago) as 'Closed' when in fact it was a CL of a similar name - in a different part of the country.  This incorrect closure had a major (negative) effect on the CL incorrectly 'closed', who didn't know of the error for many months.

I am baffled why a CL has to re apply when the next generation take over. One of our favourite CLs, been on the go decades, was in the name of Mr and Mrs X. Mr X passed away years ago, Mrs X with the help of family, resident at the the same property, carried on offering a lovely little site, some upgrades and new facilities put in, all getting along nicely. Then Mrs X finally passes away, poor young Mr X junior, who has been running and looking after said Site is told that he needs to re apply, and what’s worse, the inspector sent out deems all sorts of work needs carrying out! And folks wonder why some CLs pack it in!☹️

    Hi Takethedogalong

All CL's are certificated in the land owners name, whenever a CL site is taken over by someone else (even family) we need to go through a Change of Certificate Holder, this is not a new application.

We work very hard with CL owners to keep these sites and to ensure that Change of Certificates are done as quickly as possible. It is also a good opportunity for us to meet new owners and ensure that anyone taking over a CL site is up to date with the latest guidelines. Whilst on site we take this opportunity to ensure the site is meeting modern day standards and meeting the members needs.

If you are in contact with the CL you are referring to please could you ask him to contact us at HO if he has any queries so we can assist him.

    Thanks

    Maddie

Thanks Maddie. They spent thousands doing what they were advised to do. Luckily decided wanted to keep it on. It was just the fact that he had been running the site for years anyway, then suddenly it needed all sorts of alterations and additions. Nothing had been unsafe or contrary to requirements. We just hope that they get the visitors that the site deserves.
