Swift Ace door lock failure
Hi again
Just Beware
We had the Door Lock fail recently on Our 2017 Swift Ace Globetrotter. This caused the handle breaking off. This was caused by the shaft it was fixed to shearing / fracturing.
As you can see in Photos the shaft Fracture and the Remains of the Plastic Handle
Symptoms were after unlocking the Handle when pulled wouldn't release the catch straight away it took a few attempts. On the last attempt the Handle broke off.
We managed to get a replacement outer lock assembly and got it fitted by a Approved Fitter. We have now sent a warranty claim to the Swift Dealer.

Yup, ours failed too in France last week.
Its a very common issue. Ours is to be fixed next week we hope.
The handle is not fit for purpose.
The shaft doesnt actually fracture by the way. Its intentionally in two parts. Both parts lose their stepped connection when the plastic handle splits away.
We currently access our £25k caravan with a length of string tied around the inside handle.........

Hi MJG Caravanner
The Fitter and I Didn't realise shaft was in Two parts. What a silly design. As the shaft is square. I was able to gain access by using a small open ended spanner (9mm I think) on the short section of the shaft.
I was lucky enough to purchase a replacement outer assembly from a well known local Swift Dealer cost me £85. I agree it seems to be a common problem as the dealer had some outer lock assembly's in stock. The replacement I believe has had some improvements made. But I think time will tell if they are up to the job
