Surface Scratches/Smears

Hoping someone might be able to solve a fairly simple problem for me! When we brought the van back from our latest trip away there was a scaffolding lorry parked just across the way from our drive. So I had to take a detour around before being able to get into the right position to get it onto the drive. In doing this I obviously brushed one side of the van against some tall bushes which have left streaks down one side of the van - not even surface scratches really. But I haven't been able to get rid of them by washing the side of the van. They're not a major problem, of course, just a bit unsightly.

So if I invested in some Bobby Dazzler would that do the trick? Or does anyone know a simpler method?

Hi Chris.  I guess it depends whether it is a scratch or a dirt mark/smear?  Have you tried something like 'One Dry Wash'?  I've found this is good for the infamous black streaks, so it might just work?

Try insect remover, that worked for me when a laurel hedge came too close. Was going to try tar remover if this didn't work but former did the trick. I would try a test patch mind before applying any chemicals.

I use showroom shine which is similar and if a smear should remove.

    Autoglym super resin polish.

This is in essence a very light abrasive compound with silicon fillers.

I use this annually on my caravan, I wouldnt use a power mop like I do when I polish the cars, the paint on a caravan is far too thin. Hand applied and like wise removed will do the trick, and protect the paint, dont panic about the abrasive bit. Google it if concerned.

Solvents I would steer clear of, as I said the paint is very thin, you have more chance of going through the paint with a solvent based product.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a go and let you know if I'm successful.  As I said, it's not a major problem, just spoils the look of the caravan side, even then only when viewed from a certain angle. Just a little  irritating!
