Pitching rules and foreign vans
The Club have strict rules about how to position your caravan or Motorhome on a pitch, normally with the rear offside adjacent to the marker post. The problem with this is where you find yourself pitched next to a foreign van where the door is on the “wrong” side, and it ends up with your door facing their door. So if you’re sitting outside and they’re also sitting outside it can feel a little awkward. While we like to chat to fellow campers on site, we also appreciate the little bit of privacy provided by having our own patch of space outside without feeling like you’re sharing it with your neighbours.
My suggestion is that the Club should introduce a rule that all doors should be on the same side (normally to the right hand side when facing the pitch, but on some sites this might change if there is a sea view or something that means most people would pitch nose-in). It would mean foreign vans and motorhomes would be required to pitch the opposite way.
A small change that would cost nothing to implement but would enhance the on site experience.
Interestingly you dont really have this problem abroad because most people pitch their van side-on, which to be honest is probably a better solution altogether! However not sure if this would create a problem with minimum spacing and fire regulations.
Anyone have a view on this?
Thanks.

We have a 'foreign van' and so have our door on the 'wrong side' ( currently on the Cote d'Azur' so it's the brit vans that are the wrong way round here!)
After the initial stushie about pegs and pitching, most caravan club wardens recognized the problem and have been accommodating in their interpretation of the rules.

Enhance the site experience for who, Winston? Some of us would end up with our lounge back against the hedge and no view out. Don't be so anti-social.
We can all pitch whichever way around we choose - front in or rear in. There is no 'normal' way.

Why not split the space between you with a windbreak so that you can shout 'hello' over the top then hunker down behind it to read your book etc.
Come on - how often does it happen that doors oppose and why can't you live with it on the odd occasion that it does?

Privacy on a Club site? Come on, pull my other leg !

I agree that something should be done having had a holiday spoilt with contents and washing placed in front of our awning. My Daughter also had a similar problem, in this case the occupants were using both sides of the grass, leaving no space for the children to play. Its a question of consideration.

Agree, you don’t choose a Club Site if you want space and privacy. It’s not an issue for us, we seldom sit out on most Club Sites. Just a place to sleep, we are off out most of day, seeking peace and tranquillity.
Mind you, lack of privacy doesn’t seem to put some folks off. Last year at York it was hard to miss all the bare flesh lounging around in the heatwave. 😲

The grass between pitches is nomansland, Luckyphello. Neither of you has a claim to it.

TDA, the people complaining about lack of privacy are probably the same ones displaying the bare flesh and the same folk who walk around site in their jim-jams😁
I don't know what makes people so precious about their few square metres of pitch.

my view is that it isn't necessary to introduce such a rule and it wouldn't enhance the site experience at all.
I don't/wouldn't feel awkward in such a situation anyway.

Perhaps if you had your facts right and considered the other point of view…

Corners, you can face my door any time. We could even share a bottle of…something😀

Check out the diagram and text as displayed in my first post.

Hahaha! I think YOU need to check your diagram! The caravan is clearly pitched rear to the peg. Car on left side, awning on the right. No?
I agree you are also allowed to pitch nose in, that’s why I said “normally”, i.e. not “always”
Stuff this, lets go for a beer!

You implied the rules called for vans to be pitched rear in normally but the text under the diagram clearly says otherwise.
I agree about the beer. Truce?
