Towcar Insurance for 65+

I'm due to renew my car insurance soon - Volvo V70, me being over 65 with a clean record and a 5 metre caravan to tow from time to time.

I'm currently with LV= but will welcome other people's experience with firms offering rates for over 65's. I looked up some with mixed joy: Rias reviews, for example, seemed all to say "avoid".

There have been several threads on caravan insurance recently, but my search didn't find much about car insurance other than the discussion about longer vans than ours.

Thanks, and I hope you've had a good bank Holiday smile

Also with LV & very happy with them.

Premium has actually gone down in the last 2 years.

Use the well known comparison sites - Moneysupermarket.com, Confused.com and so on - and put your details in. Then choose a Defaqto 5 star policy which meets all your requirements from the ones on offer.

Plus, don't forget to contact them before taking policy out to make sure they know vehicle has a towbar as they classify that as a modification. If you put that into the search engine you'll just get a lot of No Quotes as the sites can't distinguish a minor alteration from a major one.

We were with LV= and only moved due to price. Currently with General Accident after using one of the comparison sites. They seem ok but the proof of the pudding etc. Hopefully I'll be on a diet and won't eat any pudding.smile

Try SAGA you can get an on-line quote. All the documentation is on line and is clear, fortunately I haven't had to claim so far.

I got a quote from them some years back. They weren't cheap.

Personally I would never use NV after one of their insured's ran into my car. It is only because I spent my working life handling insurance claims that I got what I was entitled to, and their telephone advice and correspondence to me was at best, just factually incorrect, on the items I could claim for. Basically they tried to pay me nothing when they knew that a claim was valid and reasonable.

I am currently with General Accident although have not had a claim to test their service. More Than handled my claim well but put the next premium up so I left them.

My car insurance was through the CAMC when I changed from an 09-plate VW Touran to a 2017-plate VW Caravelle in July 2018.  Come renewal in Dec 2018, the renewal quote was £1,707 !!!   After searching the comparison web sites, I finally went with Admiral and the premium was just over £744, which is probably not too bad considering the value of the new vehicle comparing to that of the Touran.  I am 83, BTW.

Never had any problems with quotes for tow car.  Every year I shop around and take best quote that meets my need.  Coincidently, it was the Club this year!  Max no claims, age 75, Europe cover for at least 3 months a year.  Just click 'Modification' then 'tow bar' on the comparison sites; never noticed a loading.
