Agree. Lidl for us. Also it prevents limescale build up in the holding tank which is warmed by the Alde heating!

Re the emptying/cleaning machines ~ had hoped to try this out at Abbey Wood (some months back) but the machine was not working :-(

I know lots of people use the bio tabs but no one I have come across has shown that they do anything only that they seem to work. Until I get evidence from someone who understands the technical aspects I will stick with the real thing. I may be missing out but I prefer to be safe

All I need to know is that they break down solids rtc and that they prevent limescale in the waste cassette

I am not sure what else I could want from a loo cassette "chemical", other than "work". ie, breakdown solids, not cause/allow smells, keep the cassette clean and be suitable for going into sewage systems mains, cess-pits or septic tanks, plus not costing much?

In our case we only ask for it to keep things in order for 24 hours between emptying, as we camp away from WCs and I have to limit the weight I lift. We are not seeking long term performance with all the added biological challenges that brings, easier to side step that and empty it.

Got that all from laundry liquid for a good few years now, not something I found I got from the proprietary stuff used back then, scale was a real issue.

I removed limescale with white vinegar and no build up since.

So do you drop a sachet/capsule in the header tank and then flush it through or only in the waste tank?

I only use it in the waste tank. Some do use a drop of scented conditioner in the header tank but I have not tried that.

Like lots of others, Redface, I can only put additives into the Waste Tank, 'cos my flush water is taken directly from the fresh water tank !!

I've started to put a splash of Zoflora Lemon Zing concentrate into the flush tank along with the usual toilet fluid and it certainly improves the aroma.

Got to say Zoflora is great for spraying in the bowl. Diluted it’s still potent. The one thing I used to be terrified about was spilling blue in the caravan- what a mess it would have made. Lidl bio pods have taken all that worry away and given me an easier life in emptying the cassette. No pong, No chemical smell- what more would I want? Oh yes, the price - £2+ for 20 pods- excellent value!!

Thanks for the answers re 'don't put it in header tank'. I have found that to be a bit grungy and difficult to clean with only a small access hole  in the top. As said a bit of pink required perhaps.

White vinegar cleans the header tank well I have found. Leave overnight and then flush into toilet bowl and wipe around to remove any limescale and finally drop into cassette

Pink can cause the gunge.  As ET said, white vinegar works, Thetford themselves suggest Milton, I have used Puriclean as I was doing the water system and find that removes gunge but not scale.

We flush with plain water and use Lidl bio pods in the cassette.
