HI

CAn anyone offer advice on the following. We will be travelling for six months starting in October. We want to fly back from Faro for Christmas but we have a pet dog. Has anyone travelled from Faro airport with a pet, we are struggling to find an airline.

Skyscanner.net will tell you the airlines which fly that route and give you their timetable, and you can check that out - but the cheapies like RyanAir and EasyJet don't carry pets. I suspect that your best chance is with British Airways which will carry dogs in a container in the cargo hold. My neighbour brought a dog back from Hong Kong that way. Otherwise it will be leaving the dog in kennels in Portugal while you come home.

It all depends if the aircraft on that route have a heated portion in the hold

I have to say, that from all I've read on forums for those owning properties in Europe, it doesn't appear possible to fly into the UK when you have a pet travelling with you.  Most people think it should be possible but then find it isn't and have to have a rethink.  Many people (like us) have to drive there and back using either the tunnel or a pet-friendly cabin on a ferry, but the cabins book up very quickly once timetables are released.

However, if you do find anything different, then please come back as other people will definitely be interested.

The handling company for dogs flying with British Airways and other major airlines looks to be Petairuk.com - they claim 295 destinations.  It might be expensive !
