How about cyclists helping themselves by adhering to the rules of the road instead of weaving in and out of traffic, coming up on your inside at high speed, ignoring one way systems, traffic lights, swinging onto the pavement when it suits them and so on.

There is room for everyone on our congested roads, if everyone gave a little consideration.

Yes, there are the dream boy racers in their  souped up "silly mobiles" who ignore the rules but equally, there seem to be as many cyclists who think the rules don't apply to them and they can do whatever they want, yet when they come to grief they are the ones to scream the loudest and blame everyone else but themselves for what has happened.

So, come on cyclists, play by the rules, earn your respect from other road users and perhaps you will have a better chance of completing your journey without mishap!

With the introduction of smart cameras now it will only be the foolhardy that try to speed. I noticed the other day that my journey to Surrey was much more relaxed as virtually everyone on the M40 realised that the smart cameras had been turned on. There was the odd idiot weaving in and out of the traffic and thinking he was Sterling Moss but they’ll come a cropper when that letter from the police drops through their door. I think the days of speeding are coming to an end. On many roads now it’s zero tolerance so the cruise control set at 69 is a help.
