Sad old toilet block

Does anyone know if there are any plans to update Silverbank site at Banchory. The toilet block is really well past it's sell by date with its mixture of shower heads and ancient tiling. I suppose it will be next century before th club reaches the outer limits of the North East of Scotland

You seem to have a thing about Silverbank facility block going back over 2 years, Mikey.🙂

I don’t recall hearing anything. In fact I don't recall the block being tired or of anyone else mentioning it.

Have you searched through the website for news of a refurb, or asked the club, or spoken to the wardens?

Oh yes it’s very, very sad. We stayed there a few times 2/3 years ago. It’s a lovely little site in a great position for exploring the Dee valley. The loo block was always very clean, but desperate for a refurbish or rebuild. Put it this way - last year Troutbeck Head toilet blocks were refurbished & they were like the Ritz compared with Banchory & that’s before they were refurbished. Come to think of it the old Troutbeck head blocks were miles better than the Wirral site & the site at Godrevy in Cornwall.

I remember thinking that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the previous block at Troutbeck Head and wondered why the club had decided it needed priority over other sites' facilities.

We like Silverbank but would agree it does need the toilet block to be re done, just like the Wirral and Lady Margarets. Both sites well supported yet the blocks are not up to par.

Come on C&MC lets see some of that money you keep taking from us going back into the sites we love.

Is Silverbank actually owned by the CAMC? I ask because the toilets block at Lower Wensleydale (This caravan park is managed by The Club on behalf of the owners) are in need of refreshment but I think that the club is not sure if it will still be in club hands when the current lease/agreement (whatever) runs out and hence they have not done anything or cannot do anything?

but of course everyone has a site that they love, so while refurbishments are taking place it may not be 'your' site that comes first?

To be honest compared to Ayr Craigie Gardens Silverbank is positively cutting edge in its loo block.  Love Silverbank so hope its days aren't numbered.

I can't say I am that bothered as long as they are kept clean and functional. Which they always have been. Yes it would be nice to have a revamp at LMP and Lower Wensleydale but this would come at a cost. Following revamp the prices seem to increase somewhat.

This was also the problem at Dunnet Bay when we visited many years ago. Understandably, as the club was regularly in dispute with the landowners who, I believe, were the local council. Eventually, problems were solved and the improvements were significant although still leaving something to be desired as far as space in the showers was concerned.

but of course you would say that, considering Troutbeck Head ( I believe one of your favourite sites) has already been made over, when as been stated it was already like the Ritz wink

By the way I said we 'liked' Silverbank, the comment the 'sites we love' was more a royal we wink

Its a few years since we were last there is it really that bad now undecided

I  personally am not bothered if they are modern and glitzy, as long as they are clean and they work, the thing about LMP is that while being clean the showers are pathetic.

actually TG, if you look back at my posts I always 'defended' the old toilets (along with EasyT I believe) when people criticised them and felt they didn't need changes at all. They were huge showers with a large changing area in front of them and underfloor heating, I 'loved' them.

The new ones are very nice and certainly the standard to judge others by but strangely there is only one more shower than there was before.

For me a number of facility upgrades have seemed unnecessary

This isn't in response to any particular post but sometimes I wonder what people expect from a facility block. Are people comparing the older blocks with newer ones and expecting the newer versions everywhere?

I'm with Steve in that clean and functioning facilities are all I need and I can’t say I’ve ever found any of the blocks to be below par. Sometimes things like low water pressure are beyond the club's control while breakdowns and failures can happen anywhere.

Perhaps some folk don't realise that it's our membership and site fees that pay for refurbishments and new builds. Maybe that's the same folk who then complain about price increases. 🤔

Can we just have a collective bonfire for the PITA stools from the older shower enclosures? 😁

And get rid of some the under used basin cubicles ..... (Cue Easy T saying he uses them often to trim his beard 🙄)

They're better than a 4” wide shelf in my opinion. I’m not built to fit on something that narrow. 🥺

Yes, as long as they were warm, clean and worked then that's enough?

Who was it that thought bidet was a plus point in a site block? Oh yes I remember but I'm sure they won'tsmile

At knee height when there’s no other means of seating provided, they can surely only be for perching on. How else can one put one’s socks on?

I can't even remember what a particular site's loo block was like. Some of you lot seem to have some funny 'highlights' in your travels.

Exactly, clean and dry that is all that is required, even the heating is not justified all that is needed is a frost stat, quick cold shower sets you up for the day, if I had a choice the toilet block would be separate from the shower block, animal noises are not conducive with a relaxed shower.

and that is an interesting point. I have noticed that there appears to be two types of shower user? Those who go fully dressed, sometimes with a coat on and (I assume) strip off on that confined apace with amazing dexterity I should imagine,

And those that go down in the minimalist manner.

I'm in the latter, summer or winter, it's a tee shirt (with something usually witty on it - well I think it's witty the family doesn't) shorts, and crocs. And towel of course. I could never get my feet dry enough to get any socks back on.

There is also those who go down in a bath robe, these are usually ladies I think and come back with one towel wrapped around their heads. Assuming they wear very little under that robe they are in the minimalist group?

PS BOTH ways are equally good!

We very rarely use the toilet block preferring the on board facilities. At the same time if we do use them then clean and working is all we ask. I cannot understand why we need super new toilet facilities when what is there is perfectly functional.

Replacing these often means closing the site and spending large sums of money which can only be recovered with higher pitch fees.

Why would you want to sit on it? They are there to put your shower bag/etc while you're showering. I've never considered sitting on the white plastic stools & slide them out of the shower enclosure out of the way.

Yes Lady Margaret are ancient, and I think  Troutbeck Head were built a lot later than Lady Margaret ‘s, apparently they are over 30 years old, and there has been no update.
