Help with 4 week itinerary in France/Switzerland

Hi all,its been many years since we ventured abroad and in April/May 2020 we are interested in touring France and Switzerland.  We like quiet, well kept sites with easy access to small towns and villages. It's our first trip without children so not in need of sites with swimming pools/entertainment etc.. it's our retirement treat so we'd like to have some relaxing days instead of tearing about to get it all done, we are looking at about 4 weeks in total.  Any recommendations/blogs or general help will be useful.  What were your must sees, perfect sites/areas and just any general tips.  Many thanks in advance.

If you would like the area in and around Interlaken then there's a post just a few days ago a little way down this page which might help you - I put in a couple of photos of quiet, low key campsites there, and you could include a week in Alsace on the way there. But April/May 2020 is a long way off so you needn't make any decisions now.

This blog is quite old now, 2007, but it is about our only camping visit to Switzerland but it might help. http://www.davidklyne.co.uk/SerendipitySwitzerland.htm

Interlaken is an obvious choice as it is such a beautiful area with lots to do. You could visit the Alsace region of France then cross into Switzerland at Basel.

There are many sites in Alsace and the area between Strasbourg and Colmar has attractive small villages. We often stay at the municipal ACSI site in Obernai as it is close to the town and you can get the bus or train to Strasbourg which is worth a visit.

If the weather is poor then Switzerland is not the best place to be so rather than heading from Basel to Bern and Interlaken, go straight on to Locarno and Lake Maggiore. The climate changes dramatically as you drop down from the Alps after the St. Gottard tunnel to the microclimate of the Italian lakes.
