Hull to Zeebrugge

Hi,

My husband and I are considering going to Switzerland via this route next summer but we have a dog and I was wondering if anyone knew what the rule was in regards to dogs on this route as my dog suffers severe separation anxiety leaving him in car is not an option especially on an overnight route.

Thanks in advance

Cheryl

If you have a look at the P&O ferries website, the info is there:

All cats and dogs must be put in our air-conditioned onboard kennels during the trip. The kennels are separated and designed so each pet can’t see each other.

We check the kennels every two hours, but should you wish to visit your pet, you can do so if accompanied by P&O staff. Just ask at the onboard reception.

The relevant link to that page: LINK

It does say "Taking your pet to the Netherlands", must be a typo as Zeebrugge is definitely in belgium!

     Thanks Vulcan,

Hmmm not sure how I feel about that option but its better than leaving them in the car .

One thought, the Rotterdam crossing from Hull leaves later and arrives earlier in both directions so you dog would spend less time away from you.

We use that by preference when travelling to Switzerland as, if travelling via Brussels, which is the most direct route, the distance is less than 30 miles further which is more than made up for in the difference in arrival time.

The kennels are fine, but the noise from the engine room/ventilation fans situated in close proximity to them is horrendous.

    Hi Scottishcouple

Have a Look at the DFDS website they do pet cabins although the crossing from Newcastle to Ijmuiden is a bit longer at least your dog would be with you in the cabin, there not a graet deal of difference in the mileage from Ijmuiden to Switzerland

The kennels on the P&O boats from Hull are fine.  They are similar to those at vets' premises and are housed in a portakabin on the car deck.  They are supervised during the voyage by P&O staff.

If you wish you can visit your dog by arrangement.  I do not visit mine as it only upsets them.  I have two Cocker Spaniels and I book a large kennel for them to share.
